What steered me away from G3PVR was that "GB"PVR was hassled for a very long time as being a lame name, and "G3"PVR seems to be a very minor variation of that.
The biggest problem with an acronym in this case is always going to be using PVR which can only ever be spelled rather than pronounced.
Dropping the PVR part would mean scrapping the acronym and using a simple subjective name (e.g., name it after a pet) or coming up with something esoteric such as using a name from classic mythology or similar which has a tenuous link to its function (Nike, Oracle etc).
At that point you need marketing people - I expect the person who came up with the brand name 'Sky' for BSB (British Satellite Broadcasting) possibly owns the tropical island where they're currently sipping cocktails on a beach.
