What steered me away from G3PVR was that "GB"PVR was hassled for a very long time as being a lame name, and "G3"PVR seems to be a very minor variation of that.
Inevitably, using acronyms for a 'product' will always be lame except in 'geek world'. Even then, unless an acronym can be pronounced, e.g., SCSI as skuzzy, it won't sit there well.

The biggest problem with an acronym in this case is always going to be using PVR which can only ever be spelled rather than pronounced.

Dropping the PVR part would mean scrapping the acronym and using a simple subjective name (e.g., name it after a pet) or coming up with something esoteric such as using a name from classic mythology or similar which has a tenuous link to its function (Nike, Oracle etc).

At that point you need marketing people - I expect the person who came up with the brand name 'Sky' for BSB (British Satellite Broadcasting) possibly owns the tropical island where they're currently sipping cocktails on a beach. Smile

There is many words of wisdom in there, and I agree entirely.

It is not a simple task to find a good name...
How about Kiwi-PVR?

It does say something about the origin too. Big Grin

Helios PVR (named after the Greek god of the sun but he was also the god of the gift of sight).

Most of the competition use TV not PVR. I thought using DVRx3.exe might have been appropriate, highlighting the digital transition. At the end of the day, I probably will call myself a GBPVR user regardless of what the application is called.

The first 2 letters of his name are GB and PVR, of course, is Personal Video Recorder.

first, of course you meant sub's initials are GB, not the first 2 letters of his name (a name starting with GB... that'd be tough to pronounce), and second, you're not supposed just tell someone with only 40-odd posts the great secret of the name! At least you didn't blurt out the whole name! Rolleyes

Duh, I think about as poorly as I type. You are right of course.
Actually, I was curious ages ago when I heard of GBPVR and found out via a google search what his name was. Damn google knows everything.
