PC Client Stutters Whenever OSD Is Shown

On my PC client the video (either Live TV or Recorded TV) plays fine until the OSD is shown. Then the video freezes and stutters for about 5 seconds. I've tried all of the different renderers with no luck. Any suggestions?

How high is the CPU when this happens?

It never goes over 25%. The videos play fine on the server machine. The server is a dual core AMD with an ATI 4XXX graphics card. The client is a quad core with the same graphics card.

video driver version? maybe try a different one or different video decoder

I see the same thing here on a client system of similar spec (dual-core, HD4850), however only on LiveTV not recordings. Playback is perfectly smooth, then if I bring up the OSD it stays smooth for about two more seconds, then stutters and drops frames, then smooths out for a moment. After the OSD times out, it stutters a little more, and then goes back to smooth.

It's interesting that the stuttering lags behind the OSD action by about two seconds; I would think if it were a render or decode problem, the OSD and stuttering would happen together and go away together... this makes it seem more like something NPVR is doing.

It happens for me on both HD and SD, though the effect on HD is more pronounced (again, LiveTV only, at least in the testing I did just a moment ago). I'm using the Microsoft DTV-DVD decoder on Windows 7.

whats the network traffic like when it does it ?
wireless or wired?

wired, 100mbps. network traffic seems to average around 25mpbs during normal playback; when I bring up the OSD and it stutters traffic drops to about 10-15mbps.

same experience here -- I've tried changing renderers and decoders (AC3 and MPEG-2)
