I have a brand new NPVR install on a brand new Windows 7 system. Everytime I try to browse my movies, NPVR crashes. Here is the error from event viewer and the contents of the crash file:

Edit: This actually crashes on almost everything I do.

Are you trying to play a movie, or just clicking the 'Videos' button on the main menu, or visiting a certain directory, or something else?

Post the npvr.log aswell.

this happens when visiting different video directories and when trying to play videos, but it is random, it doesn't crash consistently at the same point.

This log might be of more help

npvr.log.3
http://pastebin.ca/1950188

Update: It seems that it stopped crashing while browsing, and now only crashes when trying to watch some videos. Is it supposed to crash if there's a problem with a decoder? Also, is it Ok to use the K-Lite Codec Pack?, because that's what I normally install to get all the codecs I need. For some reason I can play every video format in existence with VLC, but it seems NPVR is playing very very few types - I got DVDs and .AVIs to play, but .MPG videos usually do nothing, and .MKV and MP4 videos seem to crash it. Is there a way to get these to play?

Of course not, but thats not to say a bad decoder cant cause it to crash for some unknown reason I've not yet encountered.

I can see the last thing its trying to do is load your video decoder in the logs, so there must be something screwy about that decoder. What MPEG2 video decoder do you have selected in the settings screen? Have you tried selecting another decoder?

Quote:Also, is it Ok to use the K-Lite Codec Pack?,
I have no idea. I dont use these codec packs. I dont trust them.

NPVR only plays an active roll in the playback of .ts files. For other file types it just asks windows directshow to play the file, and for the vast majority of users (myself included), it plays all files just fine. I play .avi and .mkv files all the time. There must be something screwy about the decoder combination on your machine.

Do these errors indicate a problem, or is this Ok? I see those a lot in the logs.

Unexpected error in GetImage() callback (@previewImage): System.ArgumentException: Parameter is not valid.

Also, to answer your question, I was trying to use ffdshow, but that was causing even DVDs to crash so I changed it to Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder.

This is non-critical, known error, and fixed in the next build. It can cause cover artwork to be missing some times, but doesnt cause any problem eyond that.

Ok, I uninstalled K-Lite Codec Pack, and now I have 4 decoders listed, Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder, XEBMPG2, CBVA DMO wrapper filter, and Core CC Parser. Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder plays DVDs, while the other 3 result in a crash. Here is the very last few lines of npvr.log after one of these crashes.

Update: I installed ffdshow and that also crashes NPVR when it is the selected decoder.
