I occasionally have problems with re-encoding video that I capture on my HD-PVR and I believe the source to be with the channel change (I use USB-UIRT). The reason that I believe this is that it appears whenever the channel/program prior to the change is 720p, the entire video shows up in TMPGEnc 4.0 at that resolution regardless of whether the targeted channel/program was actually 1080p. The end result is that TMPGEnc crops the desired portion from 1080p to 720p even though WMP and Videolan render it properly. A temporary fix is to demux the video with txMuxer and cut out the first few seconds (the channel change).

I would like to avoid this extra step, so I'm curious to know whether it's possible to have GBPVR delay the start of recording until after the channel change has already occurred. Thank you for any input that you can provide.

The newer NPVR app does this. With GBPVR you might need to set your STB to output a fixed resolution.

Thanks, Sub. I've played around with NPVR, but have not yet committed to making the switch. Looks like I'll need to focus on that a little more.

How would I enable this and when does the timing start? I would like to avoid the second or so of capture of the previous channel.

I think I still would need to run fixed resolution to avoid a problem with graph which always starts with the resolution of the previous capture and then adapts to the resolution of the new stream.

i just skip the first few seconds of the stream when re-encoding...same problem with atsc signals, glitches at beginning making it impossible to detect frame size..
if using either ffmpeg or mencoder, add -ss 5 to skip first 5 secs...[not sure tmpgenc will make it that easy]

i find it is required for all except analog captures...
