I couldn't find anything on a search about this.

Short story: I finally got GBPVR to work, newegg sent me the replacement TV 402U with the software disc containing win DVR and DVD. It works perfectly now, with one minor problem:

I have to avoid using my PC when shows are recording. Now, I looked at the cpu usage when shows are recording, and it is only 3% or so. I am thinking the problem happens when another app spikes the CPU to 100% for short periods of time, causing the skipping to happen in my recordings, which makes sense if the thread for that app and the thread for the recording service are at the same level, or if the app's is higher than the recording service's.

I figured a possible way to fix this would be to up the recording service's priority to abovenormal, but it won't let me.. it says access denied. Is there any way I can change the recording service's thread priority so I can see if that fixes the problem?

You could try changing who the service runs as. If you set it to your account, then it may let you change the priority.

I've never seen this happen with any of the other devices, but it may be related to USB side of things...

Nope, it still won't let me change the priority, even when I set it to run under my account.

Hey Sub,

this may be related. In most versions whilst I was recording a programme if someone used the computer then the recording stopped. Now the service assumed it was still recording but the mpg stopped growing.

I changed the recording service to run as me this morning and currenty I am recording a programme, watching it through GBPVR and using the internet and all is working well.

Now I'm not sure if you have fixed an unknown problem for me whilst fixing/improving other area's or if its because I am running the recording service as me (at normal level).

To maybe help with the AVI freeze problem, I have a lot of jumping at the start of the recording as I did a system reboot, and at the time of boot the recording kicked in so the system was under heavy load which impact the recording. My HDD's are on the same controller so this will not help. Need to get a couple of big cables to redo this or get another HDD controller.

Cheers,
Colin.

Hi Indigo

You might want to look at some freeware called ThreadMaster (http://threadmaster.tripod.com). I allows the system to limit the amount of CPU time a process receives, eg WinTV gets 25% max, but Doom 3 gets 100%, etc.

By default the limit is 15% for each process. I've been investigating it to stop an old DOS game from grabbing all the CPU time. Works find with XP SP2.
