I'm just a guitar player (who wishes he could play like Alex) and Keith Moon was good but Neil is a completely different drummer. In fact, even after reaching the top, Neil took time off and re-learned the drums. Voted best drummer many, many times, he actually started over to learn how to play. Many wouldn't notice the difference but there was a difference.
To each his own but to me, Neil is THE BEST...then, way behind, there are those like Moon and Bonham and Brewer to name just a few.

IMHO Neil (like most others who are are the peak of their craft) would acknowledge the contribution made by those who had influenced his development when considering his own achievements ...

I wonder what Keith would be doing now, if he hadn't...

There's probably alot of jams going on in the next world. Imagine (no pun) Lennon and Harrison, Moon, Hendrix, Morrison, Joplin and so many other putting on eternal concerts.

I don't know what thread will keep me from being banned but I thought it is worth mentioning that Rush is one of ouar native Canadian exports and I had the good fortune to see them before their first US tour.

Neil appears to be a really humble guy, and is apparently very uncomfortable with the idea that anyone talks about him the way we are now. From anything he's ever said, he doesn't think himself a great drummer, just a guy who loves to play the drums.

Seriously, anyone reading this whole thread who is at all curious to know who Rush is, I strongly advise you to seek out the 2010 documentary "Beyond the Lighted Stage". I think it's one of the greatest rock-documentaries of all time. I saw it in the theatre 6 months ago, and have the DVD. I may be biased, already being a Rush fan, but my wife really enjoyed it too and she couldn't care less about Rush.

Serves me right for trying to fight the "free" poor wifi in this hotel with just my two thumbs.

Many also don't know that he lost a wife and a daughter in a span of about 1 year. If that doesn't change your life, you're not human!
He also wrote 4 books and left high school early and is remarried and I think has a daughter. Besides being an excellent drummer, he's a great writer and if you listen to the first album (with a different drummer) you can definitely tell the difference in the lyrics and how the music looks to be written for them.
