garyeuph Wrote:Yes, I think it will be pretty much like the files you already have - anyway

1) The download contains a self install program which creates a new folder containing a series of files (as I wasnt going to use the actual installed program I just pointed this to a subfolder of 'my documents')

2) Copy the "Digiguide Folder" directory in its entirety into your DigiGuide
install folder. Note: This creates a skin folder called 'xmltv.dgscheme-web' which will need renaming to 'dg2xml'

3) Enable the web service in DigiGuide:
Tools -> Customize -> Web Service -> Enable Web Service and select the correct skin
and enter a password.

4) Setup Birtles XMLTVGUI for the Digiguide Grabber

I think that is all I did, it only took a few minutes from start to finish

Hope it helps

Gary

Thanks Gary, yes process sounds exactly like my original set up just that way back when there was no installer and was just a few files to put in relevant places etc. If more people start to use digiguide and xmltvgui I may document this on new wiki as xml EPG source for UK users.

cheers

Given their discount and the RT screws up just often enough to make me consider putting some effort in, I think I'll give digiguide a go. Will have a go this evening. Thanks garyeuph for your post, when looking at digiguide the other day I was concerned at the lack of mention of XMLTV output.

What I am surprised at (with only a bit of searching) is that RadioTimes seems to have better program information, including better program subtitle and series/episode details. I had, incorrectly, assumed that Digiguide would be better in this area.

Ahh - it appears that RadioTimes is live again - will have to do an update when I get home

I think it is well worth a go at this price.

However I did say in 1st post of Digiguide thread

Quote:Used in conjunction with Alan Birtles most excellent XMLTVGUI and one extra file to enable importing into XMLTVGUI it is a very good choice for a UK based XML EPG source.

Big Grin (mind you I'm a great one for missing stuff on threads Wink )

Out of interest RT is back

http://xmltv.radiotimes.com/xmltv/26.dat

I think having an alternative in place to RT is no bad thing for a few quid? And if people don't like the often long and rambling RT stuff DigiGuide do pretty good descriptions using much less text!

Yes I think the main lacking is in series/episode details. However they do have a good community

http://digiguide.tv/community/

and are very open to suggestions Big Grin

I did notice your post, but assumed it was as trivial as RT is using XMLTVGUI but was surprised when Digiguide didn't comment on XMLTV output. But I didn't put any more effort into working what's what! Smile It's interesting to see what garyeuph says on the quality of the content in digiguide v RT. But yes, the length of the RT stuff does annoy me as it often doesnt fit and as far as I can tell you cant scroll to read what's off the bottom of the EPG.

Yeh DigiGuide don't comment on the xml output, I should have been clearer in my original post. AFAIK the xml output is not 'official' i.e. is an add-on, not part of DigiGuide's mission. Natively neither GB-PVR or NPVR will scroll which is annoying when the RT stuff keeps going beyond the box. alibert's TVListings plugin (now also ported to NPVR) allows for scrolling on show details which is brilliant. There are though limitations when it comes to pop up's etc. I know in GB-PVR I edited the skin files to allow for massive pop up boxes to allow for more text but even then sometimes the RT stuff kept rambling on. I haven't tried tweaking this stuff yet in NPVR.
