It may be useful some users, so I thought I'd post this page I came across...

http://support.microsoft.com/default.asp...-us;896626

Quote:SYMPTOMS

You may experience the following symptoms when a DirectShow TV tuner program is tuned to receive a Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) video stream on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP 2):
•The TV tuner program stops responding.
•The TV tuner program displays stuttering or corrupted video.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if a table section in the Program Specific Information (PSI) table that is embedded in the digital TV signal stream exceeds 255 bytes. In this scenario, the Psisdecd.dll DirectShow component does not process the PSI table correctly.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft....

Unfortunately it's one of those "Please contact Microsoft..." type hotfixes rather than an open download.

On the other hand... my office machine seems to have a later version of the psisdecd.dll than the one in the hotfix. If I could only remember how to shoe-horn a dll into XP without the system 'repairing' it back to the old version, I'd give it a try.

you can use the new .dll

1.by copying to the hidden system32\dllcache directory first and then the system32 directory

or

2. Turn of system restore in System Properties (System Restore Tab)

Hope this helps

Be even nicer if you posted it somewhere for us to grab it from.

:o Then, of course, I remember that my work machine is W2K3 Server SP1 and, unlike W2K Pro/Server where DLLs were often the same, it doesn't apply with XP Pro and W2K3 server. Oops, sorry.

The patch is now available for instant download - I've pulled it but can't try it until I get home from work later. If anyone tries it in the meantime I'd be interested to know the outcome (i.e., does it fix any issues you're having?).

Cheers,
Brian

If you're thinking of trying this patch but haven't done so yet - think twice about it.

I'm getting worse results with recordings on my Novas than before I applied it and tonight had an unhandled exception generated by psisdecd.dll (the main file upgraded by this patch). I don't recall ever having an unhandled exception with this dll before upgrading to the patch.

OK - it's inconclusive and I need to test some more (I'm gonna roll back to previous version). Just thought I'd warn people.

Cheers,
Brian
