Remote Control Dying?

I just bought my brand new out of the box Hauppage PVR-150 a couple of days ago. After some struggling with the Audio codecs I managed to get GB-PVR up and running.

I've had some real problems getting my Hauppage remote to work. I've discovered I had two independant problems, one of which is now fixed. The remote seemed to have very poor or nonexistant reception.

At one point, the remote was working, but only if I placed it within a few centimeters of the IR Receiver. I eventually discovered that the in tangle of cables behind my box, the IR Receiver/Blaster cable had wound itself right around the power cable, right next to the power supply. Interference galore. Fixed that problem.

My real problem now seems to be that after using GB-PVR for a while, the remote seems to die out. There's no response at all from the remote. Switch to WinTV2000 and the remote still doesn't work. Stop and restart the IR application, and the remote still doesn't work. The only thing that works consistently at present is restarting the computer (from the Start menu), but that's an annoying solution.

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience or insight with this. What do the Hauppage 35/45 button button fixes do exactly? Do you think it's a GB-PVR or Hauppage problem? Is there some other process that might be killing something off?

Thanks for your time.

Oh, a side note, and warning. Reinstalling the PVR IR software appeared to blow away all my GB-PVR settings. I had to download all my listings, set up my recordings again, and the recordings I had made were no longer indexed.

There was a problem w/ 150 dirvers and losing the remote. Get a copy of the newest drivers (for the card, not just the remote, dated this year)

I think I got confused by the bazzillions of drivers for various components. I think I'll download a fresh batch, uninstall everything and give a fresh install (even if that screws up GB-PVR one more time)

I'll try that tonight and report back here.

Thank you!!!

Their page isn't helpful...I think it turns out the 150 MCEs are the same, even though they don't say it.

I think it's the 2024s here

Off-topic, but was anyone else stunned by the gossammer-silk, spider thread, wisp of a cable that attaches the IR Blaster to the Receiver?

I'm sure that it is correctly specified technically, dealing with milli-volts as it probably does, but..... wow. And I thought the bundled speaker wire with my home theatre was the cheapest of the cheap.

I'd have to agree, I'm terrified I'm going to destroy that IR blaster cable. I feel like I could floss my teeth with it.

I hope it's easy to pick up replacements.

I'll try that page's drivers capone instead of Hauppages support driver page. See if it makes any difference. What is that site, early beta releases?

I never got the remote dying problem with my pvr 150 quite fixed. I am not using the latest driver, so dont know if it that will fix the problem. In feb, I got unreleased driver from Haup. That made it so I did not have to reinstall everything to get the remote back. Currently it still goes out every once in a while, but if I unplug and plug back in the IR baster I can get it to come back. Also, you have to make sure that GBPVR is the selected program or the remote will not work.

This is killing me at the OS level apparently, the "Go" button for the IR app and any use in WinTV2000 is also bust.

I thought I tried unplugging and replugging the IR Receiver in, and it didn't fix the problem as you describe. Maybe my drivers on the CD are even older.

I'm going to try this fix tonight and let everyone know if it works or not. Difficult to report immediately, I'd need it to work for a week solid before I was convinced it was actually fixed.

Have you tried putting new batteries in it? Smile Seriously...I don't trust any batteries that come with any product that might have been sitting in a wharehouse for several months.
