Hey all,

very new to this sorta stuff. I am having trouble with nVPR and have viewed quite alot of threads about problems with no video but sound. I have downloaded all files required as stated in the Survival guide. I have also tried changing the Renderer and Decoders but to no avail. I have also tried using ffdshow before i reformatted the laptop. I have updated my laptop again with all microsoft updates etc and tried again. This time without ffdshow and all stated downloads went on successfully I believe.

I have tried recording a segment of a number of shows and tried to plat back in nPVR which doesn't show video, although if I play the files in VLC I get audio and visual. I have read my logs and I see "Error initialising Direct 3D". I'm hoping with my attached logs someone can come to my rescue, as I want it to be operating perfectly by the 3rd of April so I can watch and record the touring cars. I'm recording so I can send to someone who is out of the country and wont be able to see the races unless I ship them out.

I'm running on a Packard Bell with windows 7 starter with service pack 1, if there is anything else you need just get back in touch.

Thanks for the help, and I look forward to getting the full potential out of this system.

I can see two things in the logs. You need to install the directx runtime specified in the sticky thread. Also, the video decoder is failing to hook up to the VMR renderer, which will definitely result in no video - so at the very least you'll need to try some other decoder. I'd also stick to the EVR renderer on Win7.

I think the Microsoft DTV-DVD decoder is non-functional on Win7 Starter (since this version doesnt include media center), which is probably why it failed to hookup.

Hey thanks for the reply.

I installed the directx runtime specified in the sticky. it installed fine, I try and install again and it says upto date. Could it be something I'm doing wrong, as stated I have installed everything that was stated in the sticky

Would the way ahead be using ffdshow, as before I formatted the laptop I had installed ffdshow and the same was happening, then again I mite of been doing something wrong again.

Thanks for the reply.

Try download and install CCCP, the Cyberlink decoders are known to work well.

I think "no video" should get it's own section! Running XP professional, GBPVR works fine. Tried to match nPVR settings with the GBPVR settings with no avail.
Trying to play DVDs Ripped to the HDD
Made sure all prereqs are in place tried every codec choice in the list I think.
Ideas? Should I post logs?

Post the logs and we'll take a look. It's almost certainly down to the video decoder you've chosen.

here is the log I tried the cyberlink and the nero DVD decoders. I also updated to the patch set from the 21st to see if that helped. The nero DVD decoder is what I'm using on GBPVR

I dont remember seeing others using the Nero DVD Decoder, so I'm pretty sure this will be an aspect. Working audio, with no video, is a pretty definite sign that the problem is either the video decoder or video renderer causing problems. If you're on Vista/Win7, have you tried the Microsoft DVT-DVD decoder?

as said before running XP Pro, I've tried all decoder and renderer combinations in the list - although I'm not sure if the settings are "taking" right away. It's hard for me to tell this even looking at the logs. when I review them it seems there are filters starting that I wouldn't expect to start up. Also I get

Quote:Error initialising Direct3D: SlimDX.Direct3D9.Direct3D9Exception: D3DERR_INVALIDCALL: Invalid call (-2005530516)
at SlimDX.Result.Throw[T](Object dataKey, Object dataValue)
at SlimDX.Result.Record[T](Int32 hr, Boolean failed, Object dataKey, Object dataValue)
at SlimDX.Direct3D9.Device..ctor(Direct3D direct3D, Int32 adapter, DeviceType deviceType, IntPtr controlHandle, CreateFlags createFlags, PresentParameters[] presentParameters)
at NextPVR.Utility.Direct3DHelper..ctor(IntPtr windowHandle, Int32 width, Int32 height)
at NextPVR.ControllerForm.Form1_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e)
2011-03-29 20:38:18.312 [INFO][1] Continuing with Direct3D disabled

which probably isn't good. GBPVR works very well though on the same box.

What other decoder did you try exactly?

That Direct3D error normally happens if you havnt installed the DirectX runtime mentioned in the sticky thread.
