My Hauppauge IR receiver wire has a wire break. I have a MCE remote and USB dongle to fall back on.

One thing I never seen and wonder if its out there... can a MCE remote use the irremote.ini somehow? Maybe 3rd party software?

I was checking out eventghost and it looked cumbersome after being so accustom to easily modifying the irremote.ini for different applications.

I use a Hauppauge remote with a USB dongle, which has two blasters. I used to use HIP, but later switched to IR Server Suite. It's fairly easy to use. I use the remote exclusively for NPVR by sending Windows messages. That way, even when NPVR doesn't have focus, the remote can still control it. On the other hand, it means I can't use the remote with any other app.

Thanks, but I want to control other apps too. I am looking to continue use of irremote.ini with the MCE remote in XP Pro.

So no solutions to use irremote.ini?? Ok... I been going on a mission with LM RKM (LM Remote KeyMap), got everything mapped waiting for input from you guys, gonna give it a whirl tomorrow. If that dont work well it seems everyone is using IRSS and I might try it. I like the GUI in LM RKM

Thanks!

Your signature mentions a Harmony remote. Still using it? The MCE Remote WITHOUT ANY SOFTWARE! might be an option, depending on the number of different keys you need. The logitech database has ir codes from the mce _keyboard_ allowing you to expand the number of custom keys.

Although if the hotkeys for the different programs are all different, you're probably better off trying to set up a ir software.
