Hello,

I just installed NPVR and at the end of the process it said that it went fine, yet when I run it, it does not seem to offer the ability to do much (scan stations to start with)

In the Quick Start giude I can see that I should also install the minimum software requirement

My question is how should I know if my system already has this software installed:confused:?

Thanks in advance for your time,
g2c

If you haven't installed it, you don't have it.

"minimum" might be a slightly inaccurate term ??. It does no harm to install all those on the list, having multiple versions does not appear to cause problems with any other software. I think the directx routines have to be of that version and not necessarily the latest.
I just bang the lot in when installing to someone else's machine.

Did you run npvr's installer as Administrator? The first two results are normal if you are on W7 (W7's release notes says that it is now an integral part of Windows).

Been mulling on this since I saw martint123's comment here. It really is a 'MUST have' rather than just a 'minimum'. Mulling was due to how to re-phrase it. 'Essential' software requirements etc etc. Then I thought just drop the 'Minimum'?

'Software Requirements'

does that say it all?

Ultimately of course it would be great if Sub's installer pointed at these things. Is there a reason why it doesn't?

cheers

"Software Requirements" is good.

I too wish this was more straightforward. I've had trouble installing the DirectX component. Also, it would be nice if later versions like VisualC++ 2008 would "include" the 2005 version. Then again, maybe I just don't understand. in any event, I can make it work.

Thanks mikeh49. I always need another opinion to check myself. I think that is clear. Just a simple

'Software Requirements'

does surely mean you need this for NextPVR to work?!

I don't understand myself, so I simply pose the question, and am fully prepared to be shouted down by those with far more knowledge than me. But I have been prompted by software which tells me I cannot install it due to a lack of prerequisites. If NextPVR could do this would it not make life simpler, for all?

cheers

What prompted my comment was what I think I had read that a specific version of DirectX was required rather than the latest version (I do stand to be corrected on this though.

I understood it the same myself? Hence the specific link on the wiki. Hmmmmm .... mulling Big Grin
