I'd never make the installer require users to have any specific decoder installed. ffdshow or other.

I doubt that mpc is very much used in windows environment, my impression is that the vast majority is using WMP. I remember trying mpc once, it showed poor performance and crashed a lot so I gave it up.

There are too many variants on Windows these days but Win7 does have excellent support for broadcast captures. It still needs the same codec and splitter support for mp4, avi and mkv files that NPVR does.

As for MPC vs NPVR usage stats, let's just agree to disagree, I was simply making the point there are probably hundreds of thousands of people using ffdshow successfully

Thousands maybe, if you count all Linux users too, bot definitely not hundreds of thousands. Not on this planet.

ffdshow tryouts are windows only, you probably are confusing this with ffmpeg From one site K-Lite with ffdshow/mpc http://fileforum.betanews.com/search?s=k-lite&x=0&y=0 you will note 35 million downloads

Sourecforge has 10,000 downloads daily http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-...s/timeline

No I'm not confusing. But downloads does not mean daily users, I'm convinced that a lot of them (like me) find it of no value and just discards it.
