1. After following the wiki, and setting translator to auto load, I can no longer call up the translator. When I try, it shows up in the windows task bar, but as soon as I hover over it, the translator icon disappears from the task bar. I don't know if it's erroring out or what.

2. The latest IR Server Suite does not use the IR Blast program that is referenced in the wiki. Does anyone know how to configure the new version for GBPVR (or NPVR)?

Thanks.

Don't know about 1. That sounds like an error. Translator icon should be in the sys tray and shouldn't disappear. A double click or a right click and select translator should open the translator window.

2. Later versions of IRSS moved the location of IRBlast. Should be just sitting there in the top level directory of IRSS, no IR Blast folder any more. Having said this I know there were some issues with IRBlast.exe NOT working with the very latest versions. I'm not sure if they have mended this. Maybe latest v has? pBS is probably the one who knows Wink I know there were suggestions of trying an older IRBlast with the later IRSS but don't know if that worked or not. I have stayed with an older build for now, think it is 3286 but don't know if that is still available. You may get some more info over on the IRSS thread @ MP forum.

cheers

Agreed, had lots of problems with the latest 1.4.2.4068 (which I think is the first version after the total rewrite). Still use 1.4.2.3664 which is very stable and blasts well.

I installed 1.4.2.3496 version, and clicked the button to install the blast.exe (prior installs had no blast.exe because the instructions did not say that you have to chance the installation defaults), but the translator is still disappearing once I tell it to load on boot, and it does not change channels (it tries, but doesn't change). I've spent a day going back and forth between versions, very frustrating. Obviously there is something wrong with the translator program, but I don't know what. I'll try .3664 for see if that makes any difference.

Must be very frustrating as IRSS should really be a very easy install and set up (if you have an older version confirmed as working by this community, which I'm sure .3496 was). I've checked and I'm on .3281. Interestingly I have .3496 on my software server but for some reason am not using that. I wonder if I had problems with it? My next download is of .4068 and I know that was def no good. I appear to have missed out on the one b00sfuk has, .3664.

Sorry to have not been more help on the install, I think by default much older versions of IRSS installed IRBlast as was, then later you needed to check command line tools or something like that to get it. Think you found that out anyway Big Grin

Obviously something not right though with the translator, when you say it tries to change channels what does it actually do?

I got it to change channels by telling it to use port 1 in the command line. If I don't tell it to use port 1, it won't change. Note that in the setup when you are adding the numbers, there is an option in the test box for port 1, port 2 and both. Well, that only is for testing. I noticed that testing didn't work when set to both, but worked when set to 1. Strange, huh?

However, I am still having the disappearing translator after I boot - even when I don't tell it to load automatically. Not sure why, but I can't get back in to make changes.

Yes, it's been frustrating, but I think it is now working (except for translator disappearing).

Thank you all very much for your help and suggestions.

I've successfully mapped my remote buttons in IRSS, but am having trouble blasting a signal. I assume the "test" button in the Translator program send a test blast signal? None of the three bulbs on the blaster flash any light when the "test" button is pushed. I've removed the plastic covering and am looking at the actual blaster bulbs. I've also tried selecting port1, port2, and both with no luck. Any other suggestions? I unfortunately don't have another blaster to test if mine is defective. Before I buy another blaster, I wanted to see if there was something else I should try. Thanks.

3 x bulbs on blaster? What blaster do you have? Yes 'test' with IRSS should send a test blast. Plastic covering should make no difference (IR can 'read/send' through that!)

You have a USB IR Kit?

I'm slowly but surely getting IR Server to work on my machine. When I select "Port_1" port in the Translator I can successfully send an IR signal (solved my problem from the above post). However, when I close Translator it defaults back to "Both" ports, which for some reason doesn't send the IR Signal correctly. Any ideas how to keep the "Port_1" settings? Thanks.

Firstly I apologise if I give you hope by replying

But hope should always be on hand Big Grin

I think it is very difficult to trace some of these problems since IRSS went through some quite dramatic changes over the last few months. However I am sure some others will come up with solutions.

Unfortunately: From what I have seen IRSS has tended to veer back more towards MP in the latest versions. And although a 'fairly' friendly forum MP is not even close on friendliness like this forum. Look back through any posts made on the MP forum when using IRSS outside of MP, you will get the drift!

It may help to establish your O/S and the version of IRSS you are using?

Agreed, very helpful people here at GBPVR.

I'm using IR Server Suite - Test Build 1.4.2.3281.exe on Windows XP.
