mvallevand Wrote:Thanks roy I wasn't sure since this is the MVP forum. The NMT problem is my doing, I thought I was doing a good thing for skin designers by making NTSC screens run at 640x576 by default. It turns out many people don't understand this and on top of that NPVR works better with NTSC 4:3 resolution. The bottom line in my next release the default for NTSC will be 640x480.

Until then I would suggesting changing your dimension, since you are still corrupting the bottom. You want 2*yoffset + y = 576

Martin,
Realizing that the quoted post is 3-weeks old...

I used the info above (2*yoffset + y = 576) to attempt to fix the croppped screens on my M34A's
but the screen was shortened in height dramatically

By iterating I got decent results with
Code:
<MVPWidth>1200</MVPWidth>
<MVPHeight>680</MVPHeight>
<MVPOffsetX>40</MVPOffsetX>
<MVPOffsetY>20</MVPOffsetY>

Since this is at odds with the three-week-ago " =596" rule -and- I have done a full re-install via NMTInstall2 in the past week... I am wondering if maybe you had made the change to the native resolution that you mentioned in the quoted post?

Thanks,

No, I haven't made the NTSC change to mvpmcx2 for the NMT yet I will in the next public release. The = 576 rule is for SD resolution. For HD you follow the rule nicely with

2 * offsetX + width = 1280
2 * offsetY + height = 720

Hey Martin, I've added an MVP specific section to my config, but it appears to be completely ignored. My display remains too tall for my TV. Is there something else that I have to do in order to get the settings to be used? I'm seeing an error in the log, so I'm attaching here for reference. Also, here are my current settings:
<MAC-000dfe0c62be>
<MVPClientType>MVP</MVPClientType>
<MVPWidth>720</MVPWidth>
<MVPHeight>460</MVPHeight>
<MVPOffsetX>10</MVPOffsetX>
<MVPOffsetY>10</MVPOffsetY>
<MVPSendIncrementalUpdates>true</MVPSendIncrementalUpdates>
</MAC-000dfe0c62be>

Thanks for you help,
Kevin

Kevina, you probably need to have the NIC address part of the name in upper case. Looking at your settings I would also suggest for an MVP that you keep your width limit at 640 and have the incremental updates set to false.

Thanks Martin, that did the trick. Everything is now displaying correctly. I do have a question though. In the settings for MVPMC, you can select a 16:9 TV aspect ratio (although I can't tell if it actually fills the screen at this setting, since I can't really view anything while in the settings view). Yet I seem to be limited to a 640 width within the config, since setting it to anything higher causes text to be lost. Is the MVPMC setting just a tease?

Thanks for all of your help.

The OSD menu system is fixed at either 640x480 NTSC or 640x576 PAL however in general the aspect ratio is not related to resolution. The aspect ratio comes into play during video playback since video (typically some analog SD stream captures and DVD rips) can be flagged widescreen and if you have a widescreen SD monitor they can be shown full screen because mvpmc will automatically switch to WS if the flag is in the file.

Many mpeg files won't have this flag set though (including svideo and composite captures) so the mvpmc setting will determine how to display them. It won't remove black bars though.
