**Clean** install?

OK, I'm having problems that I'm thinking are either related to 0.92.11 or to a plugin I installed that mangled something, or something else entirely.

Are there any reccomendations for a clean install? I was thinking of downgrading to 0.92.8 to be 100% sure the problems I'm having are realted to 0.92.11, but how much information do I have to lose to do a clean downgrade? I'd like to keep my guide data and my scheduled programs, but I'm willing to lose these if it means being absoultely sure nothing 0.92.11 is left behind.

Any ideas?

To downgrade you need to uninstall, delete the directory, then reinstall old version.

Yes, you will loose your guide data, list of recordings, and settings.

Gotcha. I'm going to try this. I need to reduce the number of variables to find the problem.

I'm left with the following options:

1) Some installed plugin or skin broke the system
2) Something deep inside GB-PVR 0.92.11 broke my system.
3) High Priority XML setting in 0.92.11 does something evil. (I can test this, actually, by going back to my hack which did indeed work)
4) Something even more bizzare that will be extremely difficult to find.

Because this doesn't seem to take effect for 12-24 hours, and I'm working or sleeping most of that time, this is really frustrating to diagnose. Have sympathy for the too frequently posting user...

just being curious, did you rule out the driver being the problem? Did you try downgrade to whatever version you had before the problems started? When you *did* switch drivers, did you follow the instructions on http://www.shspvr.com/pvr2_drv-apps.html ? I'm not sure you have to follow them exactly, but if you didn't, it wouldn't hurt to try; maybe you've got some old remnants left that are interfering somehow.

I had a bit of driver hell lately, so I've got a fair amount of experience with switching out the drivers now. Yes, I've already tried modifying the drivers.

The thing that's making me think it's something to do with .92.8 is that the problems started occurring about 12-18 hours after I installed .92.11 and about 24-72 hours (not entirely sure) after I installed the new drivers. Ever since the problems seem to occur within 12-18 hours after a system restart.

I have a few other theories and tests and I've not downgraded to 0.92.8 yet. I'm hoping my current guess is correct. If it is I'll report back. Otherwise I think I'm going to try a clean install.

have a look in you control panel -> administrative tools -> computer management -> device manager. Using the 'resources by type' menu option, is anything sharing an IRQ with your capture device?

IRQ conflicts can give this behaviour - no error, but the device stops producing data.

Except that I can view LiveTV just fine during these "outages".

I'm starting to suspect the problem is not time specific, but rather program specific. The same programs die at very specific times during the day. It's not just a certain time after restart.

I'm looking through the mdb file and don't see anything interesting though (I thought perhaps I had set the recording quality to Custom1, but that doesn't appear to be true).

I've had my first 0MB of the day. This time, I'm going to leave the system unrebooted, and see if my 5:30 PM program works as I expect it will. If that's the case I'm next going to write down all my recurring programs and do a clean 0.92.11 install and see if that resolves it.

I've had a look through the mdb file (I'm a DB admin) but don't see anything special about these programs. Anything specific I should be looking for?

OK, it's confirmed. The problems are happening with *specific* shows, as opposed to a certain amount of time after reboot. It has to be a GB-PVR problem of some sort.

I thought this was a weird setting on the recordings (i.e. Custom1) , but I'm not sure I see anything special in the mdb file. They're recording at Low just like the other shows. Perhaps I'll check this when I go home.

The other option is that there's something wrong with the channels those shows are on. But I believe I can watch these in Live TV just fine.

I'm thinking of just blowing away my recording schedule and see if this fixes the problem alltogether. Anything I should look for before doing this, or should I wipe things out and start clean?

Will opening up the GBPVR.mdb file and running 'DELETE FROM RECORDING_SCHEDULE;' do anything particularly evil? How and when do recurring shows get scheduled?

You'll also need to delete everything from REOCCURING_EXTRAS

I did a clean reinstall of .92.11. I'm thinking there was somthing bizzaro in the recordings/conflicts.

It sucks because it's now the weekend, and the recurring shows that were causing the problems aren't on again until Monday.

I'm just going to stick with this setting, the only mod being the the High priority. I'll see if the problems reoccurr.
