Oh boy!! & those instructions are slightly different from the ones shown above & in that linked thread <confused>

I have fired off some scripts etc. for running from USB with the wake in them (ether-wake included) but he won't get a chance to try them until next week so I will wait & see the outcome.

Yes it is different that is why I cleaned out my last old messages. My preference would be to script it so you don't need a usb drive but I opted for the simplest solution with fewer chances of questions.

I've been umming and arrgging whether to post on this thread or not...

(also given some of my recent ranting on this forum I am very worried I would rant again, I do hope not. I rant when I am frustrated by something, but it also wears me out and then I end up feeling like a tw*t)

But as you can see my wicked self got the better of me Big Grin A glutton for punishment.

If this could be better documented on the wiki perhaps we could start with a totally separate page for any advanced NMT set up configuration? I don't know just a start? I totally respect Martin's view that

Quote:don't struggle with installation for more than an hour. If you upload your logs and the NMT syntax check output, I can usually straighten you out right away.

But being a wiki person I can also say without a doubt that if it wasn't for Jaggy's wiki stuff for the NMT on the GB-PVR wiki (now on NextPVR wiki)

a) I may have given up
b) If I didn't give up it would have taken me weeks to get around to tweaking it with stuff like the autoload/MCE remote

so what I am saying is can we at least start with some kind of advanced NMT configuration page?

just an opinion Big Grin

Here you are going off topic again, in many ways I really wish you had given up. I am rally getting tired of the rants.

My point about configuration were strictly about using NMTInstall2 and NMTInstall to get their PC configured. Some people get swamped under this forum and all the obsolete information that is in here, and often I wish I could nuke everything except a few stickies.

I agree the wiki is a great spot for information on the utilities I wrote to help GBPVR and NPVR users like ether-wake, loading alternate remote controls etc, and running Jaggy's auto run script, but please don't try and drag me into helping you, like you have done ever other time I have made this request.

I don't believe that this was a steeb rant? I am finding it hard to find any hint of rant in my post? Off topic may be, this was a post about waking the server via the NMT?

Well why don't you help them to be less swamped? I find the NMT forum stuff very swamped? Obselete info is obviously not good? i have made this point time and time again about the forum? My point about the wiki and NMT was also about making it clearer?

I am not, if you can clear up the:

then may be we can write it all up? I do not really understand Martin? You make it clear on the forum, we can make it clear on the wiki?

Sorry but after Jaggy's rant which he wrote included me, (even though it is about ether-wake), and your follow-up for the umpteenth time on the lack of NMT wiki information became too much.

For my purposes on configuration of an NMT

1. Read the Dummies Guide (as explained GBPVR and NPVR users don't have to read to far).
2. Run NMTInstall2 to download install and configure mvpmcx2 for use.
3. If you can't get it to work run the NMT Syntax check copy the output to a message and post your logs.
4. Don't expect you will find help reading old information on the forum.

Thanks Martin, exactly the kind of answer I was looking for.

So my suggestion still stands. For the wiki a basic set up page given Martin's post above?

and then a link at the bottom to something like Advanced Configuration...

and a page like:

http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...T-Advanced

(not created yet just a suggestion) that goes into more detail.

just ideas?

Maybe make it clear that users should follow the 'basic' setup and get it working properly before even thinking about trying any Advanced Configuration...

Also somehow make clear the difference between what is supported via the NMT forum versus the Advanced Configuration options along the lines of 'these options have been successfully implemented by many users but are provided on an "as is" basis' or something like that...

Alex' 2p for what it's worth...

Ummm errrrrr isn't what your are suggesting pretty much what I have already done on the NextPVR wiki for the NMT??

My general rant was due to frustration trying to find "step by step" instructions for stuff to do with the NMT, I know they should be on the wiki & I have added the ones I have figured out over the years, but where are the other wiki contributors that have already figured out the other stuff but never documented it for other users?? I do get a tad "peed off" with lots of users asking for help but never giving anything back to others in return (obviously that doesn't include Martin as he gives HEAPS & HEAPS back)! (but isn't always the best at documenting stuff for idiots like me to understand easily)

Steeb, I have to admit Jaggy has a point. This forum (actually the NMT forum speaking of off topic) does serve the purpose of basic troubleshooting (and sucks for advanced configuration) but that is pretty much the same thing for all the main forum. The difference is the wiki for advanced NMT configuration isn't fully developed or maybe other than Jaggy's auto run, most people don't need advanced configuration. I am very happy with the basic configuration that NMTInstall2 gives.
