That triggered my memory. Some AVRs had a popping issue when switching audio formats (DD 5.1 to PCM when stopping or skipping... also affected Media Center). Denons and Onkyos were notorious for it. Some were fixed with a firmware update on the AVR, IIRC.
I agree that it is probably a driver issue, but as I am using a notebook (with a ATI GPU), I don't really have a lot of options, software or hardwarewise.
Still, Pause() must have some magic dust that Stop() doesn't.
What I hear is not clicking, I wish it was, it is a kind of digital hum, most unpleasant.
Assuming you don't need multiple decoders active at the same time (eg for SD and HD channels, even if it's the same decoder), try giving ReClock a go. Using something like WASAPI output might fluke around the problem.
OMG, I just spent half a day getting HE-AAC working! I consider myself reasonably competent, but this codec business should really be reserved for specialists! It's just so hard to figure out what's going on...
I'll have another look at ReClock. It seems to have come a long way since I looked at it last, with AC3 encoding and all.
