Well I went to the effort of getting MVPMC downloaded to try, to see whether the crashing MVP was the dongle or network or hardware etc etc.

I used a film that I had experienced stuttering (briefly at a few points), rewinding skip would go forward and not backwards, pausing causing usual issues, crashing etc etc.

Using the MVPMC dongle, I could skip as many times as I wanted, quickly as I wanted, rewind, generally do all that I would expect, film played fine too.

Now I wonder if it could be changed to work with GBPVR.

Next step see if I can compile it.

That would be nice as I believe it supports AC3.

onestar,

You know where to find more information on the dongle and how it's built? Is it really an IMG file created with dd or Rawrite?

paperchaser,

The Dongle is, if I remember correctly, the Linux OS (RAM image) downloaded to the MVP for it to run. Basically it boots and fetches it's OS from the server, loads up the kernel, enable network and then runs the modifed VNC protocol to connect to the server to then show the GBPVR menu, like they one you see on your PC screen.

Thanks,

John

John

I'm just following the instructions on sourceforge. Managed to get it compiled using a new linux install, phew, now try to see if I can make any use out of it Smile

Wondering how testing with this went.
I'd really like to use AC3 Audio with the MVP.

Well so far I've only got to the point of talking with the server from the mvp, trying to decode the protocol and reply correctly at the moment. There is some information out there, but either I don't understand it very well, or its not entirely complete.

So a bit of step by step.

If I can get the screens up and communicate back to the server the key presses, then its a case of trying to play video, using the existing routines.

Unfortunately I can't spend the time I would like to at the moment, but we shall see.

My understanding is that MVPMC's replacement dongle is pretty all encompassing. It implements it's own GUI and is completely self sufficient except for having to get its stream content from somewhere else.

My understanding of the MVP in a GBPVR world is that sub implements using the standard Hauppauge protocol in such a way that you would see the proper skin etc. on the TV even if you use the MVP.

If both of these assumptions are correct, then unless MVPMC left in all the Hauppauge protocol (including recent additions) and allowed the MVPMC GUI to be overridden, then GBPVR would not be able to run with the MVPMC dongle.bin.
