Hi all,

Power was lost last night due to a transformer blowing (wow was it loud!!).

This morning my MVP wasn't working. It was stuck on the requesting DHCP addie/ Boot message. Ran ethereal and saw that the MVP box wasn't being assigned an IP. I'm only running the GBPVR software on XPSP2 Home edition. No MediaMVP or DHCP software. (I'd installed the MediaMVP sw intitially but then removed it). Btw, I'm running a non-managed 100Mbit switch on the PVR network.

Searched the forums and deduced that I should reinstall MediaMVP, set the processes to manual. Did that and shut down GBPVR. MediaMVP interface worked fine on the MVP. Shut MMVP down rebooted and GBPVR interface is back to working.

So, i have a couple questions...

1. Do i now need to install a DHCP server to automaticaly assign an IP to the MMVP box in event of another power off event? If so, what server is recommended? I could upgrade to XP pro if it has one.

2. The GPVR interface doesn't show any of my recordings. How to resurrect them? The lady won't be happy if she has to search through the video library ..heheheh..

EDIT: upon searching more..I see the recording prob source. I'm recording to a USB drive and the drive wasn't seen right away on startup. Likely the info was deleted then. Anyway to recover?

TIA!

A network router will work best, about the cost of a cheap DHCP tool, unless you can find one that is free.
You could also use the MVP software to assign an IP address, then shutdown the MVP software and start GBPVR. Dont power-restart the MVP because it will loose the IP address it was given.

Dont know about the lost recordings, someone else may be able to help you.

If you decide to go the software route, you can get a free one here.

I once thought I lost some recording settings, turned out that somehow my .mdb file got renamed to .old or something like that. I renamed it and all was well.

I would just get a router. You can pick up a NetGear, Linksys, etc., for in the US$30 range these days, and that's including a wireless AP for future expansion, etc. You can still use your switch if necessary. A software solution is always going to be more tricky than hardware. If you want ease of recovery (from power failure, etc.), then I would just go with a hardware solution.

GBPVR system info intentionally left blank because I'm personally
insulted that you can't remember it from previous signatures.
