NextPVR just treats all ATSC/QAM devices the same. There must be something quirky about this device or it's drivers that doesn't behave the same way as every other manufacturers devices.

This thread got me thinking aobut the ub435-Q so I pulled it out and tired it again with the patch. It now shows up in the device list as a "BDA 2875 TVTuner" for both QAM ans ATSC, but I can't get anything when I do a scan with QAM or ATSC. I've disabled the virus software, the firewall and removed the HDHR to remove all the outside variables and still no joy. I don't know if this helps you, but I discovered that after a restart of the PC I cannot view or record with NPVR until I open TiVme or TotalMedia and tune to a channel. Once I do that, NPVR works fine -- until I restart the PC again. Try tuning a channel in TiVme, then closing. Then opening NPVR and do a channel scan. If that works then I will know the restart thing isn't just affecting me. Please post your results. Thank you. Hope it helps.

As I already stated in my last post, I'm having an issue where this tuner doesn't want to tune in NPVR after restart of PC. I don't get any errors in Live TV or recordings. It just won't tune the channel. All I see is a black screen in Live TV. The buffer file and any recordings are zero byte files. Once I open TiVme and tune to a channel, all is well in NPVR until I restart the PC again. I read something like this in a forum, but I don't remember for which app. I'm going to try other things this weekend (when the tuners and I are available for trials) and hopefully have more details to post. So far I've only used the KWORLD in NPVR. I'll try the other tuner (ASUS) and see if it works and if it has issues after a restart, too. Would getting a log before AND after using TiVme be helpful? It will be awhile before I can restart the PC to try it out. Thanks again for all your help, everyone.

Sounds like you need to set the ATSCMode registry setting. Older KWorld devices defaulted to ATSC mode and it can be changed via a registry setting. See http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post270987

See http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post270987 Thanks for the reply. Found the key. Changed the value to 2. No change. Just checked and key is still 2, so I guess the startup is not affecting that key. I've done alot since changing the key as you can read in my next post.

Well, alrighty then. I tried the registry fix. No change. And I have periodicly checked to see if it changed back, but it is still 2 as I made it. I tried a few things with other apps to see if I could isolate what was causing the loss of tuning upon restarting the PC. First I enabled and disabled various services and startup entries for the other apps, restarting after each. No change. Then I uninstalled TotalMedia. No change. So I went into MediaPortal and enabled the KWorld tuner there, thinking that might be what is blocking the tuner at startup. No change. Then after going into TiVme and then NPVR I went back to MediaPortal to disable again and decided just for fun to do a scan with QAM IRC. It worked this time. All this time it was something at startup that was screwing with this card. Then I thought it was the registry change that might have done it. I restarted the PC and the problem is still there for both apps. I still have to open and tune in TiVme to get the other apps to tune or record with this tuner. So, very odd, indeed. At least now I am certain it is not isolated to NPVR. Since the ASUS card is not experiencing the issue in either app, I will state I believe the problem to be firmly at the feet of this KWORLD stick. Now if I can only figure out what it is. I'll try KWorld support again (they were no help when I asked about tuning in MediaPortal, so I'm not holding my breath). They were very helpful in fixing the problem with TiVme freezing the tuner (they said DO NOT update TiVme after installing, and that worked). TotalMedia didn't work, so they gave me a broken link to another version which I finally got to through GetRight's ftp browser. That version worked but started corrupting channels (only in TotalMedia) and the ASUS version of TotalMedia had done that, too, so I am done with TotalMedia. All that's left now is to uninstall TiVme, but I assume that would only disable the KWorld for good. I had tried to tune in MediaPortal plenty of times before installing TiVme to begin with, so I guess it is not TiVme that is causing the issue.
Wow, that's alot. I have now discovered that my ASUS also can record multiple channels on one frequency in NPVR and that the KWORLD (which can in NPVR) cannot in MediaPortal, so I guess MediaPortal cannot do it at all, even though their wiki says it does (maybe they were only referring to OTA, not QAM). I am typing this as I record 5 channels on 1 frequency and 5 channels on another. Sweet. I'll never need that much, but it's nice to know I can if needed. I know I said I didn't want to put all my eggs in one basket, but NPVR is looking like a pretty good basket. I'll probably hold off a few weeks before making the switch, though. I would like a way to customize the file names like I do with MP. I guess I'll request that in a later version of NPVR. Not right now, though. I'm kinda busy. Thanks again. I'll look into the... so that's what the nPVR screensaver looks like... I'll look into the startup thing more later and post if I find anything.

I don't know why I didn't try this sooner. Unplugging and replugging the tuner (it's USB after all) yields the same result as restarting the PC. I have to open TiVme and tune to a channel before it will work in NPVR again. I guess that means it is likely a driver issue? Before I thought about trying this, I contacted KWorld support and will post once they respond. I may have to write again about the replugging if that becomes necessary.
I have attached logs including a before (NO-TUNE) and after (TUNE) log of NPVR.log and a log of NDigitalHost and NRecord. Hopefully there is something in there that sheds light on what's happening. Please look through them and see if anything makes sense. I would appreciate it. Thank you.

It's sounding like a driver issue to me. NextPVR just treats all QAM devices the same, regardless of manufacturer, and this device just isn't behaving the same as the rest.
