I installed comclean per the instructions. However, it is not cleaning. It renames the mpeg file to original at the end of the process but it does not generate the cleaned mpeg.
I reinstalled it with same results.
i read the posts about comclean but cannot find a solution.
Thanks

And your comclean.bat, and your comskip.ini
We need to see everything together, although if renamerecordings is working, comclean should be OK.

This might not be what you are wanting, but it works for me the way I want it to.

What's attached really isn't different from the original comclean.bat, but I took out the part that renames the original, which in turn will delete it, giving you only the cleaned file. I have tried comskip .64, but .40 still works best for me.

I have to admit it does give some weird errors while doing its thing, but it seems to get the job done.

Everyone's comclean should be about the same. Either you delete the original, or you don't, so posting them all is a waste.
Everyone's postprocessing.bat will be slightly different, depending on certain plugins installed or not, so posting YOURS is also a waste.
Everyone's comskip.ini and comskip.dictionary will be DIFFERENT, depending on where you live, and THIS is what the "tuning of comskip" thread is all about.
Everyone's cable/sat signal is different, thus black levels are going to be different.
Everyone's commercials are different, depending on which channels, and even local affilliates of network channels you record from most.
As Jere has pointed out, the defaults work, sort of, for most people, but there's GOT to be some tuning on your part. You MUST adjust black levels, and you must add, or remove, things from the dictionary, if you want comskip (and thus comclean) to work.
If comskip doesn't pick up any ads, comclean doesn't remove any.
Comclean relies 100% on comskip's effectiveness.

I have been tuning comskip, for MY situation, for over a week. It's a slow process. Record a show, check the log, save it somewhere. Run comclean, check the recording (in virtualdubmod). If ads are missed, note why, or where. Adjust the comskip.ini.
Repeat this process, over, and over, and over.
I must have recorded 100 one hour shows, and tweaked comskip.ini after each one, and I'm still not quite done. Smile
Eventually, you get a mix of black frame detection, dictionary additions, and logo detection, that works best for you.
You can never have enough tuners!

-I have, but I still like .40 for some reason.

-Yep, the stock comclean.bat resulted in the same situation as linfor ran into.

-Hey, if it helps someone out, it's not a waste to be redundant. Rolleyes

This has nothing to do with comclean. Comclean works perfectly, always has. It relies 100% on comskip doing it's job. If comskip doesn't find any commercials, what will comclean clean? You MUST tune comskip for YOUR card, recordings, channels, black levels, advertising, etc.

I just didn't want 15 posts of identical comclean.bat Smile

getting him to post HIS ini's and bat's for HIS system ( not for all of our working ones ) will at the least let us see if their is a massive error somewhere and could save him a TON of trying to tweak things ... as a programer i have banged my head on the wall for hours , only to have a co worker walk past and go "doesnt that line need a semicolon at the end?"
thats the only reasion i asked for him to post his files.

I also would like to see a .txt file that shows comskip has identified commercials and then hear if comclean did cut them out.
The log file created by comclean

call comclean %1 >>comclean.log

shows the command line used to call the mpeg cutter and it shows the resulting cut points in the cleaned file.
WOuld also be interrested to see that log file.

First, edit comskip.ini and set "Verbose=10".
If you run comskip, and save the log and the .txt from the recordings folder and post those.
Open the log, and at the very bottom, it should have the number of commercial breaks. Not every commercial, just the total breaks, usually 6 in a 1 hour show.
If they are there, then run comclean, and comclean will clean out whatever comskip found.
Play the filename_clean.mpg and see if there are still commercials.
Check the dictionary for phrases that match. If there are none, add them.
Adjust the black frame detection levels.
Run comskip on the file again.
Check the log, to see if it found more commercials.
If it did, run comclean. See if they're all gone.
If it did NOT, adjust comskip.ini again, run comskip again.
Check the log, see if it found the commercials.
Repeat until there are no commercials.
You can never have enough tuners!
