So I upgraded my GBPVR PC this weekend. I have 2 capture cards and was wondering how I would be able to tell which card had which external tuner attached to it in GBPVR's eyes. Then I had a brilliant plan, I'd install one capture card first, make sure it works, then installing the second, by process of elimination, "there are only 2", should be a snap. So I install the first tuner on Saturday, everything is great. It's quite late by the time I finish so put off the second tuner until the next day. Finally, last night I had a few minutes and decided to install the second tuner. First tuner was capture device #1, this tuner should be capture device #2. Great I'm good to go. Now as of yet, I believe I'm missing codecs, since I can't use the PC to view videos on GBPVR, so I'm not able to test on the PC. I have to run to 2 seperate rooms to check the status of the tuners on 2 seperate MVP's. But really why should I have to check, I set it to the next device. Later that evening, tried to watch a recording I'd scheduled, it was the wrong channel. The wife then informs me that she was not able to change channels all night since I was messing with it, "I did get the audible alarm that the TV was being used and to stop playing with the computer". So now I set up live TV on both MVP's remember can't test on the PC that's in the basement. Sure enough, I can't change channels. The video stops and restarts as if a channel is changing, but the external tuner is not changing the channel. Hmmm, somethingwrong with the usb uirt. reinstall drivers, try every USB port on the new PC, nothing. To make a long story a little shorter, during all my testing of various combinations of messing with the USB UIRT, I noticed that when I changed the channel on the living room MVP, I notice the bedroom TV's glow "it's 1:00 AM" change. Sure enough, changing the channel on 1 MVP was causing the other to change. Went into config and reversed the capture source number and everything is as sweet as pie.
Just thought someone else may find this funny. I had to laugh at myself last night when I found the problem. Amazing how sometimes you can chase the wrong path for so long before realising it.
As a side note, does anyone know how the capture device #'s are assigned to a specific card, I'm just curious. By PCI slot number maybe?
