I've been having problems lately with my DCR-2650, failed recordings and unresponsiveness, that seem to be unrelated to NPVR and more related to networking issues, that I can't figure out. The DCR2650, which is it's own network adapter, will occasionally seem to be locked up and unresponsive, causing recordings to fail, live tv won't work, and NPVR becomes unresponsive while trying to communicate with the 2650. The NPVR logs don't usually show any error that I can see, except "unable to contact device". Thinking that it may be firewall or port related, I turned off windows firewall, and didn't see the problem for several days until again last night.

I recently installed "Networx" a little systray utility that monitors network traffic, and whenever the 2650 is locked up, this utility shows "networx is not running". Also the NEWA gadget will sometimes not be able to connect when it's locked up. When I unplug power from the 2650, network responsiveness resumes immediately, and after the 2650 reboots, NPVR can record properly. My other tuner, a 2250, still works properly when the 2650 is locked up.

I have to believe this is network related, and windows blocking it somehow, but I don't know how to diagnose it. Any advise or suggestions on tools to use or how to investigate and diagnose this?

Thanks

Roy,

I sometimes have problems with my DCR-2650 network adapter device disappearing in Windows 7 (64-bit). I have found that if I just unplug & replug the USB cable, the device will get recreated and everything will work fine. I can then connect to the DCR-2650's web interface and look in its log, and it will not show any type of errors. I suspect that it is a problem with the Windows device drivers. I had tried to troubleshoot the problem with Hauppauge, but did get to any resolution. It seems to happen to me once every week or two. Fortunately, most of my recordings are coming from clear QAM channels and get done on other tuners. So it hasn't been too big of a problem for me.

I don't think mine disappears, just locks up, but I'll check that.

My 2650 is very unreliable and I get about a 25% failure rate for recordings, usaully the failure is UNABLE TO LOCK A SIGNAL. I'm afraid that this thing was rushed out the door and isn't really ready for primetime.

I don't have any errors regarding signal problems. That sounds to me more like a problem with the actual cable signal/quality. Does it affect all channels or only certain ones?

I just discovered that Hauppauge released new drivers and firmware for the DCR-2650 a couple of weeks ago. I'm installing it now to give it a try.

I installed the new drivers this week. Don't see any change. The 'failed to lock a signal' error does not necessarily indicate a bad signal, it just means it didn't tune it in for some reason.

My 2650 does not disappear when it's locked. It happened again last night and I sat there trying to figure out the status. It just gets unresponsive, then responds for a moment, then goes off again. It really seems like a networking/firewall/windows issue, but I can't figure it out. Guess I might have to try Hauppauge support.

Just a thought: Have you tried a different USB cable?

There does seem to be increasing frustration with the HDHDR Prime on the SageTV forums too http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5652 . If you jump to the end a lot of problems are being reported that are similar to those being reported here.
