Hi

I'm new to NPVR and I've got a problem with live TV. Hauppuage Nova-T dual tuner card seems to scan and find 60+ channels, clicking on live TV brings up screen but no picture. channel at the top changes when asked but still no picture.

I haven't tried recording, but suspect it won't work either. Any idea where have I gone wrong in setting up.

device manager tells me the Nove-T card is working OK.

I've turned to NPVR because XP media Center 2005 doesn't work after reinstalling. I like the look of NPVR and would prefer it to Media Center.

Settings>Decoders
Find one that works.
Also download DivX Codec pack for more options

I'm not sure where it should go, but does anybody think it would be helpful for newbies to mention that as far as trouble-shooting goes, watching live TV is more complicated than recording and watching it separately?

I'd recommend saf6; hoborg created it specifically for npvr. Look in the community announcements forum, it's one of the top threads.

also, as a general rule, always post logs with any support request. See the link in my signature.

I think the forum name should be changed to "NPVR Support (post logs)" so that you and sub can remove that macro from your keyboards.

I'm new to this so I'm sorry about any wrong protocol.

I seem to be recording TV OK.

I now have live TV and sound but very jerky playback, similar to streaming on a slow broadband connection. Could this be down to my system ?

I mostly want to use NPVR to record anyway so it should be OK.

I will have a look at saf6

My system:-
Windows XP - AMD 3200+ 1.8Ghz - 896Mb RAM - Nvidia GeForce 6150 - Hauppauge Nova-DT

Is the jerky playback only on LiveTV or also on recordings?

You are a pretty marginal for system power, especially the video. Most everyone here is running significantly more powerful systems. At one time, a Geforce 6600 or equivalent was the recommended video card.

I could get American standard definition TV with a Geforce 6200 and XP, but it was marginal. I'd expect HD to be very jerky. Windows 7 with its decoders and improved video performance might just work. I have a low powered system with a 7600 and Win7 that does HD OK.

It's only jerky on live TV, ( broadcast digital), recording is OK.

I think MikeH49 is right, the system needs improving.

Money's tight but I'll see what I can do.

I expect this is as far as we can go on this thread. Thanks for all the help.
