Sorry, I'm no help. I use a Microsoft remote and it works fine. I did just try an old Hauppauge and got no where with it.

There are registry settings at hkey local machine\software\hauppauge\ir that have tripped me up in the past. What device is the ir receiver plugged into? What other Hauppauge devices are installed?

Thanks for the reminder. Before posting I tried it in the two holes in the back, knowing that the IR software picks one of my Hauppauge cards for the input. But, one of the holes I tested it in was the Freeview HD card. Pluging the IR lead into the remaining Hauppauge card fixes the problem :o

As I recall, the IR software picks the last Hauppauge card installed, i.e., the last driver loaded.

Is the 8 start screen (i.e. the "modern/metro" bit) a full screen application? If it is and we knew what it was called, could we create a section in the irremote.ini? What apps does Task Manager list?

I see a possible entry in the Task Manager: "Windows Start-Up Application". Not sure how to get the name of it's window title...?
