First off, I would like to say that you have done a wonderful job on this project.

I do have some suggestions though..
1) Instead of just offering recording capabilities, offer the ability to remind the user whenever a particular show is on. IE: If I am watching something on LiveTV and a new episode of CSI is showing, popup a message on the bottom of the screen indicating the CSI is starting in 5 minutes and offer me the chance to tune to that channel or record it. This isn't really an original feature, it is very similiar to what DirectTV offers.

2) Allow the user to search more specifically, for example: I want to record/watch all Padres baseball games. However, I don't want to record when the Detroit Tigers are playing or many of the other televised games.

3) Allow recordings from all channels, for example: CSI is broadcast on many channels, give the user the option to record whever CSI comes on, on ANY channel, any time.

4) I am not sure what information ZapIt (or other XML Providers) give in their listings, but a category search would also be a nice feature. IE: Search for all sporting events, or more specifically, All baseball. Or Movies, etc...

5) I have seen some plugins that do this, but I think that it is pretty important and should be integrated ino the application. Automatic DIVX/XVID/etc... conversion. This way, movies can be compressed during non-use hours to conserve harddrive space. Commercials could also be chopped out at this time using COMSkip.

All in all, I think that you are doing a wonderful job and I will continue to use GBPVR on my system. Also, if you need any help developing components, please let me know because I am interested. I have 10+ years experience programming, and I know C, C++, C# (probably the most relevant to this project), Java, VB, etc..

I would second this. I was recording Seinfeld, and it was on 2 different channels, and Indycar Racing was on ESPN1&2, and ABC I think. It did make it a SLIGHT pain, but then I just thought of,"How woiuld I do this if I was using a VCR?" GBPVR has significantly altered what/when/and how I watch TV.

I like #1, and I think it's been suggested before. The rest, except for 4, is possible to some extent already.

Can you explain how all of the others would be accomplished? specifically the baseball search example? Thanks!

I know you can search descriptions in the web interface, so you could match on team name there. I don't know the button name, but in xrecord there's one to access the adv search that can also record on parital match. You just need to find the pattern to the listing to make a good criteria from.
