Hi,

Following on from my wildly unsuccessful Smile Patterns plug-in, here's a game of Sokoban that you can play via GB-PVR.

It even works on the MVP...

There are 90 levels ranging from easy to almost impossible (I didn't design the levels - I found them on the Internet several years ago whilst attempting another Sokoban project!).

As you'll see if you play it, it's not yet fully complete but any feedback is appreciated.

Regards,

I will definitely try it out. I was going to ask if any other could do MVP compatible games. I was 'thinking' of trying it myself....

XBMC
Hauppauge 150 via SVideo
Comcast Digital Cable
Motorola HD Cable box channel changed via Firewire
Vista Home Premium with RDP hack

Hi,

The MVP is OK for "turn-based" games, e.g. where no display updates happen until a user presses a key.

Basic animation can be done (e.g. the Patterns plug-in mentioned above works on the MVP) but the default update speed of 1 frame per second limits things a bit!

Of course, if someone wanted to be REALLY clever, a game's output could be written dynamically into a streaming MPEG file but then there would be all sorts of synchronisation issues, not to mention the amount of effort that would be required! Smile

I've spotted another potential game that would suit a GB-PVR / MVP "conversion", so will post that here once it's in a playable state...

Here are some comments and sugestions.
When you hold a key or press it and cant move it will still count you moves.
A way to restart a level. Currently Esc will exit the plugin
Tell you when there are no more moves.
Save high scores.

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback... I was wondering about the moves being counted when you can't move (e.g. against a wall) and will do something about that, but I can't remember what other implementations of Sokoban do...

Restarting the level: good point! D'oh! Smile

And I did wonder about saving the high scores... Will do this on a per-level basis, e.g. the lower the number of moves to complete a level, the better.

As for saying when there are no more moves, completion of the level pretty much indicates that there are no more. I can't really detect if the player has stuffed the level up! Smile

Regards,
