Manual writing into gbpvr.mdb

Hi,

I consider to write scheduled recordings directly into the gbpvr.mdb file. Has anybody done this already?

How can I inform the recording service that the contents of the .mdb file has changed?

PS.: The reason for wanting to write directly to the gbpvr.mdb file is that I want to use TV-Browser for selecting the shows. I live in Austria and have only rather bad xmltv data available - TV-Browser contains much better data.

I prefer people dont write anything directly into the database. I do change its structure often, so you'll probably find you're forever maintaining it.

what don't you just create your own xmltv format file and then get gbpvr to import that instead.

as sub: is there some API which I could use to tell the recording service or gbpvr the shows to record? Maybe a commandline option for gbpvr?

ad Huw: I don't have the complete data for the channels available. TV-Browser gets its data from the TV providers directly which do not allow to publish the whole program data in xmltv or any other format. They allow to use the data only for scheduling individual recordings (if you speak german, you can search for 'xmltv' in TV-Browser FAQ for more information).

what I was saying was, if you can get your data from TV-Browser, you can then create YOUR OWN xmltv compatible file, I wasn't saying to use XMLTV

The problem is that I cannot get the data from TV-Browser, I can get only the data for single records.

The only possibility with using xmltv would be as follows:
- Select the shows to record in TV-Browser and export them
- Generate an xmltv file containing only these records
- import the xmltv file into gbpvr
- again select all shows in gbpvr to actually record them

In my opinion, this is a much complicated way. It would be much simpler if e.g. gbpvr provides command-line options to schedule a single recording:
gbpvr -OnlyAddRecording <filename> -Quality <quality> -Channel <channel> -Start <start_time> -Duration <duration>

sub, do I have a chance that you will implement this feature?
I really like gbpvr, especially the recording service which provides the only reasonable way to schedule recordings in a multiuser W2K system.

There is a way to add a recording using the dll. Using the ScheduleHelper class. You give it the information that you want and the programme that you want to record. I know this works inside a plugin. However the plugin runs inside the gbpvr process space.

I am not very familiar with dlls so I am not sure if it will work if invoked from another process space.

Jorm, it'll work if you access it from outside of GBPVR as a seperate DLL. Otherwise the Web Admin wouldn't be able to get the info on scheduled recordings. GBPVR of course has to be running.As long as you use the DLL provided by Sub to interface with it, GBPVR you have no problem.

Using the ScheduleHelper, and especially with the next release with the recording option additions Sub is making, a program could easily be written to record imported programs. If it isn't in the EPG then I would suspect a manual record entry would be added, to specify the date, time, and channel to record.
