GB-PVR has been great, but i've been having a slight stuttering issue whether or not I use Encoder-Passthrough. When doing everyday things like surfing, rar'ing a simple file. GB-PVR stutters, so I set GB-PVR.EXE to priority AboveNormal and it has cured the problem. GB-PVR takes up a steady 13-16% CPU. My question is whether or not the priority sticks and will it affect anything? Thanks In Advance Big Grin

What processor do you have? Just curious because watching TV in timeshift takes 64-81% for me normally (no stutter). I'm running on a Sempron 3100+ (1.8).

I have my priority set higher on the recording process, but it doesn't stick after reboot w/o a hack (search here for help w/ that). It will effect things to extent it's going to run at a high priority, so it you start hitting a lot of activity, othe rthings will seem slower (GB getting slower last). It should be exactly how you'd think it is: GB gets dibs on the processor, and then everything else goes 2nd.

If you want it to start in high priority, just create an icon/shortcut that does "start /high gbpvr.exe".

I'm still using 09112b, and I think you added it after that (it still handles by timeshift viewing by default better for now).

I decided to try something, since, and made gbrecording high and gbpvr above avg...it's taken away a little softness I was getting w/ some types of motion.

The "start /high gbpvr.exe" I refer isnt a GB-PVR feature. It's a feature of cmd.exe. You could use it to start notepad in high priority if your want.

Ahh...I see. I think I'm confusing where you said you added it to config page or something due to popular demand.

I don't know if I'm crazy how I have it set up, w/ record on high and gb on above. My thinking was, watching from TS only, was that that recording should be the most important thing, followed by everything that goes into watching, w/ both still being above everything else on the system (is pvr-only, so who cares).

I also figured (maybe wrongly) that the recording done while doing stuff in GB would be kept smooth first (where maybe the high end of a large photo show would goof w/ it).

Btw, don't know if you'd know, but 80% on a 1.8Ghz watching TS....is that high? Runs fine, but if it's high, maybe something is making it worker hard than it needs to.

Honestly, I dont think changing any priorities is required, but if it makes you happy....

I do recognize there is a million different combinations of hardware and software, and it wont work the same for everyone, so it may help you to get things working smoothly on your setup.

It does sound on the high side to me, but it will vary quite a bit depending on you choice of video decoder. Also if you've got ffdshow installed, this is known to chew through quite a bit of CPU.

I think's one part the former, and two parts the latter Wink I'm sure in some cases it's chasing figments, but it does seem to stem off some background activities from coming up. W/ even basic installs, you still have apps looking for updates, saving states, etc. I didn't need it before, but it's helping this build. Since it's a GB-only box, I figured it couldn't hurt.

I thought about that, and turned off any processing FF was doing w/ audio (only thing it does w/ TV), and it actually didn't change it at all. I think it's the nVidida decoder, as it's doing that, resizing, adding color, and deinterlacing. Maybe I'll switch it to something else to test.

80% is my peak, but it's still 67%-78% normal. I figured since this is a percent of processing power, someone w/ 2Ghz+ would see more like 50-ish and so on.

Just FYI to anyone that has been following:

I just decided to test, and it is the nVidia decoder that adds about 20% more processing. I turned FF off, and it really didn't seem to matter much. I switched to Intervideo, and I was running more like 40-50-ish%.

That said, I'm sticking w/ nVidia (and this is the new one in testing, the purevideo). It handles the overscan for TV much better (no round heads) and ratios in general, is smoother, and does some nice interlacing.

I just wanted to know what I was paying for in processing power, and to what.

Sorry but how would I go about creating a shortcut to make this work. TIA :o

EDIT: Thanks sub, I figured it out. Now it's perfect. Big Grin
