I know nothing of set top boxes and any help would be appreciated. I have an STB with only HDMI and SCART outputs (it's a Youview box for those in the UK who might know of such a thing). What would be a a good way to connect the STB to NextPVR?

I have looked at the various versions of the Hauppauge HD-PVR and Colussus. They are a tad expensive. Will they do what I want? Is there something cheaper?

Thanks for your help.

Edit: Does anyone know if HDCP content protection will get in the way if I try an HDMI connection?

I have the HDPVR and have used it since GBPVR so averaged over the years the cost isn't bad. I bought the HDPVR2 for HDMI and as a backup but it has a bit of a lag so on demand recording is a bit harder. I don't know if that is improved as the HDPVR2 family got newer. SHS has posted about his HDCP workarounds I am happy with the analog hole on component, but you don't have that choice.

You'd probably find life much easier if you just bought a Freeview tuner (or dual tuner) card for the PC, rather than trying to do anything via an external STB. They don't cost too much these days.

Thanks, Martin. I have done some work and I suspect that I might have an analog hole. I use this DVB-T tuner and it has s-video and component inputs.

The filtercheck log is attached. The relevant bit might be

But nothing shows up in Settings --> Devices

I am in the process of installing the Hauppauge softpvr . Does softpvr need to be up and running before I see a device in Settings --> Devices?

My hope is that I can get a result using a SCART to s-video/component converter.

I must be missing something simple. Thanks.

Apparently, the answer is yes. I now have an analog device in Settings --> Devices. Now where can I find that 120 year old camcorder to see if the analog device works! Thanks.

Edit: This NextPVR software really is rather good.

My old Sony camcorder has s-video and composite out. I now have two new channels one composite and one s-video and both work in NextPVR.

Please, can anyone recommend a SCART to composite adapter?

What should I get to "blast" the IR on the STB?

Thanks for listening.

I needed to be able to divert my landline to my mobile phone ... long story short ... I finished up with a TalkTalk Youview box "free of charge" ... It has "free" Sky channels on it (via broadband) so I'd like to be able to record them if I can. If it's gonna be hard or expensive, I'll give up.

I found an adapter cable in the "box of bits that I should have binned years ago" and it works! So I can connect the YouView STB to NextPVR ... Yay!

Now all I need is a channel changer ... and that's the subject of my other post.
