Here is a updated writer filter that logs more messages about all disk writes done. As mentioned, I'd prefer to get these file writer logs when only a single recording is occurring.

OK, here are the temp files for about 5 minutes of recording 48 Hours.

Did you still get the impression it deferred writing to disk, then wrote some bulk amount?

It looks like it's consistently writing to the disk throughout.

Yes it behaved the same way. Not showing anything going to the physical disk until I cancelled the recording and then huge chunk writes.

As I said in the other thread, I think that it has something to do with Windows and disk caching/buffering. While the recording is going on, if do a dir of the recording folder, it shows the .ts file growing consistently. But when I look at Resource Monitor, it doesn't show actual writes to the physical disk until the end of the recording. So I think that the data is being stored in the server memory. (The server has 16GB and Windows & apps are only using 2.5GB, so there is plenty of memory for Windows to use for disk caching.) I have also seen that when I have several (like 4+) HDHR Prime recordings going at the same time, the big chunk writes do occur periodically during the recording not just at the end of the recording. (i.e. the server memory being used to cache the disk data is filling up the available RAM sooner, so it they have to be written out before the end of the recordings)

The thing that I don't understand is why the caching would behave so differently between the 2 different tuner types.

Yeah, it must be something Windows is doing. As far as NextPVR can tell, it's writing to disk regularly.

Can you see if this patch makes any difference?

Initial testing indicates that with this one it writes out as it goes along.

That's what I love about NPVR - you wake up in the morning and your problems are solved - initial testing here seem to be looking good Cool Time will tell.
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

I've updated the installer to include this patch.

I'm going to try your patch and see if it helps my Prime recording problem. In my case, only recording made by my Prime (not downloaded files) will stop and give me the message they've reached the end of the file and do I want to delete. Unfortunately, these stoppages are no where near the end of the file. When I say I don't want to delete the file and start over, it's from the beginning of the file and not from a resume. I don't know this is the same problem, but it's worth a try. If anything else occurs to anyone, please let me know.
