I don't mean to sound the least bit unappreciative for the effort being made here nor bashing the product at all---I'm simply frustrated its not yet far enough along to work a bit more smoothly.

Oh well......................
The reality is that none of the free apps are going to be super simple for North America, given there is no source of free TV listings in that part of the world. You always need to jump through some hoops. WMC had the advantage of being a large commercial application, that paid to license TV listing data, allowing it to make the setup much more straight forward.

I had a huge learning curve when I set up my system a while back. Overall NPVR is the best out there. It's not perfect and needs to be played with every now and then. Sometimes things go so well for so long i have to relearn everything all over again.

What we have to remind ourselves is that some of us can grasp the concepts while others struggle with the frustration. Messing around with .bat files ect is not for everyone.

I am confident that every situation with NPVR can eventually be resolved on this forum but not nessesary overnight.

What he said. Once you have all the bits of your puzzle put together, it just works, leaving you looking for interesting 3rd Party plugins and the occasional headache finding schedules (not an NPVR issue).

The forum is very vibrant, with excellent, unparalleled support from sub.
I always feel a twinge of regret that sometimes it doesn't work out for some folks, at least not immediately, and would encourage them to persevere.

Unless your
* Hardware Drivers doesn't work (Not NPVR);
* IR Channel Change doesn't Work (Utilities exist in NPVR and Outside)
* Schedule Feed doesn't Work (Not NPVR);
* Playback Clients don't Work (Often Network Issues)

it's normally pretty good to go.

Pleas remind us again what the big stumbling stone was that prompted you to give npvr up?

you almost got it right on attaching the logs; instead of right-clicking the single npvr.log file, go up one level in the directory and right-click the Logs folder, and Send To Compressed Folder. that will create a .zip of the entire logs folder which is what we want.

as to the ongoing problems you've had, what are they? I looked through your previous posts, seems they were all simple problems resolved in a few posts... I don't see anything major or unresolved.

Apologies in advance for the length this is............

My only real goal trying to find an alternative to WMC was a relatively simple program allowing me to record OTA broadcast TV here in the USA. Previously I was using three VCR's, each set to a specific channel, programmed according to a weekly schedule. Because that technology is becoming outdated, hardware and tape increasingly difficult to find it was time to move into this century hence a computer to replace all that.

Honestly my knowledge and familiarity working with computers is extremely limited by comparison to most assembled here but I'm not as simple minded as I probably appear here. Smile Were I more experienced with tweaking an OS as might be required to fully enjoy NextPVR perhaps I'd share the enthusiasm for NPVR. When its working good there's very, very little to criticize about it---I'd not hesitate an instant to recommend it as a viable WMC alternative.

Yes this is quite a vibrant and active forum as well as enjoyable to read and participate but without shared knowledge of the majority already here I'm completely out of my league. A glaring example is my inability to create a simple .zip file for attachment as is so very necessary when/if an issue arises---this is my own shortcoming, certainly not NextPVR's, I'm fully aware this is as frustrating for others here as it is for me, albeit for different reasons. Patience with me during my struggles hasn't gone unnoticed even if its not fully acknowledged and appreciation expressed in other threads or posts I've created.

I did completely delete my latest version of NPVR and reloaded it-----it would appear the most recent issues have been resolved by that action. So from that POV we can consider this a closed issue and I thank everyone who tried helping me. I know you did your best even despite the severe uphill battle I'm sure I present. Smile

Thanks again all----sincerely appreciate the help!

Cheer up, you'll get there! Now you'v learned to make complete logs to post, it is my experience that if you really struggle with a problem and finally find/learn the solution you WILL remember it the next time Smile. Even we oldtimers sometimes feel we are hitting a brick wall, but persistence will prevail eventually. I'v worked with computers more or less since 1975 (long before the pc was invented) and I found that if you work systematically, seek help/google and don't give up all problems can be solved Smile
And npvr has the best support forums, I'v tried several other pvr systems and for most of them support is almost nonexistent.
