Quick Questions about gbpvr

I just found your site a short while ago and have done some reading here in the forums. I'm currently using Mythtv but it has not been an easy ride. Myth is very nice with lots of features, but after finally getting most everything up and running, I ran into a major problem with video freezing, a slew of errors. So....

I took a look at your screen shots and wow, very nice. I aplogize for another 'can it do this' post but I need to replace my current box with something else ASAP. My hardware is compatbile BTW.

1. ability or record shows with auto commercial flagging/skipping. (allow me to skip commercials)
2. play DVD's from the hard drive using the gbpvr menu and control them w/a PVR-250 remote
3. allow you to edit and remove commercials out of recorded programs within gbpvr itself
4. control an external dtv reciever with an ir-blaster
5. search feature for tv shows
6. handles reruns and keeps from recording shows you alread have set to record or have recorded
7. is there a plugin that allows you to access Mame and roms with the gbpvr menu
8. last but certainly not least, how is the stability? are their problems with live tv freezing or jerky or bad quality (I have a pvr-250 and new nvidia with s-video out) . Does gbpvr lose recorded shows or miss shows from time to time? What about recorded video, is the quality good only with certain hardware?

6) The core product doesnt, but there is plugins for this

8) I think its pretty stable, but there is a million different combinations of hardware/software out there, and we dont know anything about the crud installed on your machine...so who knows...

Some people have problems with jerky bad quality playback, but this comes down to your machine and the video decoders and other directshow filters you have installed. Luckily there is plenty of information about solving these types of problems.

Man that was quick! Thanks for the quick reply.

I feel that since your app runs on Windows that the driver support is much better therefore eliminating a lot of the instability some pvr's have. I'm not a windows user but drivers are usually quite good.

You seem to be the main (or only?) developer at gbpvr. I must say you've done a hell of a job!

Yes, plugins exist for both of these features.

I'm the only developer working on the core GB-PVR, but there are lots of others developing great plugins, skins, utilities etc. It's those guys that are helping make this project a success.

8. last but certainly not least, how is the stability?

I have a dedicated machine for GB-PVR which runs 24/7. I've just been on holiday for a week which is the longest it has been left alone without a reboot or restarting the GB-PVR services. It quite happily recorded about 25 hours of recordings over the past 7 days without a hitch. That's certainly stable enough for me.

On my machine(check signature for specs), I frequently will be recording one show, compiling a dvd of another, burning a dvd compilation, and sometimes printing a label on a dvd all at the same time! The recording service is the key component uses very minimal CPU cycles, and as long as you don't tie up the drives too much, it more than keeps up while multitasking.
