Sorry folks, anything MSI related is a mystery to me. Hopefully one of you will spot something in one of the MSI logs that solves it for everyone.

Quote:is there anything different in the install process SUB?
Nothing significant that I can think. I added a couple of new files, remove a couple of skins and changed the version number.

Quote:I'd like to go back to 09211 but this version is not anymore on the server?
Does anyone has still this old version available?
For those that decide to pass on v0.93, I've put the old release back up at http://www.gbpvr.com/GBPVR09211.msi

Quote:could someone who was able to install successfully, please outline the steps they took to upgrade from 09211 to 09310 ?
I've personally done the upgrade a couple of dozen times successfully. All I did was download and run GBPVR09310.msi.

Does some one want to try producing a log file by doing

msiexec /i GBPVR09310.msi /L*v c:\install.log

Then run it up in the microsoft analysis utility from http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/defaul...tl_exe.asp to see if it provides some more clues?

Here is information from the MS Windows Installer log analyzer tool from above.

The first error in the log is:

MSI (s) (C0:88) [14:06:18:593]: Invoking remote custom action. DLL: C:\WINDOWS\Installer\MSI13.tmp, Entrypoint: ManagedInstall
MSI (s) (C0:8C) [14:06:18:593]: Generating random cookie.
MSI (s) (C0:8C) [14:06:18:609]: Created Custom Action Server with PID 3984 (0xF90).
MSI (s) (C0Big Grin0) [14:06:18:703]: Running as a service.
MSI (s) (C0Big Grin0) [14:06:18:718]: Hello, I'm your 32bit Impersonated custom action server.
Action ended 14:06:22: InstallFinalize. Return value 3.

The tool's "Possible Solutions" contains:

A standard action or custom action caused the failure.

There are 5 other errors following this one, but I'm not sure they are helpful since they have to do with roll-back as a result of this initial error.

Note: I can install 092011.msi with no problem. If I feel energetic, I may compare a good MSI log from 092011 with a error log from 093310.

Unfortunately, that still means nothing to me.

Another user indicated this worked for him: http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=5...stcount=26

Using msiexec /a "C:\Temp\GBPVR09310.msi" as described in that thread isn't perfect, but it gets the new version installed.

Note: This can't be used for a clean install since it doesn't setup shortcuts or the recording service. This may a clue - I'll be the problem with 09310 is related to setting up the Windows Service.

This type of install can be run on a system that already has gbpvr installed (for example 09211). In this case, when you run the install, it will ask for a location to install it. I had to leave the location set to "C:\" for it to install in Program Files\devnz\gbpvr. If you put the full path in, it will install as a subdirectory under ...\gbpvr.

By the way the new release is very nice! This is awesome - keep up the great work!

That worked and it seems to have worked but I cant get zap2it listings to download properly. It errors out at Saving with "Failure in ChannelFactorty:ConfusedtoreChannels(): THE INSERT INTO statement contains the following unknow field name: 'wst_subtitle_page'. Make sure you have typed the name correctly, and try the operation again."

If I dont install the previous version before this one trying to setup GB-PVR crashes with a JIT error, complains that the recording service isnt installed. Also when I try to run Live TV i get a "error: Object Reference not set to an instance of an object.

Ok - seems a lot of people have the EXACT Same problem - Can we narrow it down out of interest. The /A option updates all the files but for me its not satisfactory because you even then can't install 09310 over the top - it still rolls back and uninstalls the product - I don't want to have to do the /A option for every update. How many of you are running Windows XP Media Center Edition??

Ok - I have installed 09310 over 09211 on my other pc and it installed fine (I ran it with verbose logging). Comparing the logs the problem seems to be in the WiseDOTNETInstall.GBPVRRecordingService.

Here is the chunk from the Failed update - As you will see I get the RED error after the 2 green lines when it fails and then it starts a rollback, in the successfull log after the two green lines it shows the logging of the service install.

I can see WHERE it failed - just have no idea Why. If anyone else who's updates are failing could look and see if their log is the same at that point that would be great to see if we all have an identical problem. I have DotNetFX 1.1 installed, I've uninstalled and re-installed it and its made no difference. Any Ideas - SUB - Anyone?

Thanks

Yes, the log file that was sent to me by another user was the same error. I dont know what it means though, or why its working for some people and not others.

MUAahahahah.. Smile

i just got 09310 installed! ... via the normal installer..

my problem (i think)? .. i had .NET framework 2Beta installed !!..
I'm still not convinced that this was the definite cause, but after uninstalling it (in anger) - 09311 installer just ran without a hitch..

I tried the above only because the logs above had references to .NET ..

I am now wondering that even if you dun have .NET framework, you might consider uninstalling .NET 1.1 or 1.0 from your PC - then reinstall both the framework and GBPVR ?

my exact steps:
(1) uninstall GBPVR 09211
(2) uninstall .NET 2 Beta
note: i still had .NET 1.1 installed
(3) install GBPVR 09310

Note: i;m still configuring/retuning ... once i can confirm that everything else is working, i will let you all now Smile
