Well, the latest problems with the MC2XML epg data weened us off cable TV. We are moving on to Netflix, Shomi (canada), and Kodi with the proper addons.

It's been almost 10 years and I learned a lot and my entire family benefited from the GBPVR setup. I'll probably still use NPVR for local content but I see using it less and less...unless there's a Netflix plugin. It's unfortunate because I spent the last year building my last rig with my first LED TV (still using a CRT), I7, Colossus, HDPVR, IR blasters and set top boxes.

@jam_zhou . I have never replied to any of your posts on this forum, because I never had anything to say. But I have seen your posts many, many times. Is that it? Or do you mean a Netflix plugin would keep you 'hanging on'? What to you are the 'proper add-on's with Kodi?

Shomi through my STB has replaced the need for a lot historical recordings at my end too but $2.50 a month for Schedules Direct isn't very much to ask for get an OTA guide.

Always sad to see long time user leave, but I totally understand. 10 years is a long time, and the world of entertainment and TV has changed sooo much in that time! Good luck for the future.

I'm using Kodi with the Genesis addon for new shows. They come on pretty quickly after the show has aired and for shows from the UK we can watch them hours earlier. Plus we started the habit of binge watching all the old shows that we missed. It's really nice to watch a series and not forget what happened the previous week. For instance, we just watched Being Human (US) and Constantine. My wife wants to watch Mad Men and Supernatural.

Regarding Netflix, if there were a plugin in NPVR where I can use a remote control to navigate Netflix I'd probably use NPVR a lot more. I still like NPVR because it's so simple compared to Kodi.

As for paying for schedules direct...I'm not saying it's a lot, but add on my cable bill of $40/month and it adds up significantly. I'm debating OTA but it means an antenna and only a few channels that I would watch - we don't get much in Ottawa.

I think it's only a matter of time before I cut the chord from the cable company and go OTA. I would stay if I could pick the channels I want and pay only for them. I know we have the technology to allow this but they don't want us to do it. For cable TV, telephone and internet I pay $195 a month!!!!!! I only watch maybe 12 channels and I already get lots of shows from Netflix and the internet so do I really need to be paying this much?

I feel your pain jam_zhou and maybe we all spend too much time in front of the tv.
And, I just realized that though I was a user of GBPVR before I joined the forum, I've been here 11 years this month. I haven't gotten a bit older either.

Sorry my post probably came across wrong. I am happy with my system but if my backend or my HDPVR fail I likely will stopping using an HTPC too. The cost of Schedules Direct (and NextPVR) are probably the only bargains I feel I have.
Now that we are having to cost streaming services to Internet, Cable, Cell, Telephone it's painful I did save good money (~$50 monthly) recently going from Bell to VOIP + Fido with free Spotify for 2 years. When free Spotify and free Shomi ends in two year, if push comes to shove I would keep them over NextPVR.

My OTA coverage of all the fall networks shows is pretty much 100%, the problem for me is this fall season is pretty weak (IMO) so I have to pay for premium content to enjoy TV and sports anyway
