All I did (about year ago) was drag the GBPVRRecordingService into the list of files distributed.
What I think will happen when running the installation is that the setup instantiates any Installer class that is embedded in the assembly. Since this is a .NET service it will come with a prebuilt installer class that does two things - install the exe as a Windows Service and register the name of the service as an event source. That is if you haven't made any additions to the Installer class..

Now, I think there are two different ways of installing a .NET service using Wise. I've had some bad experiences with trying to get it to properly call the Installer classes. Instead, you could install the service by adding it to the "Services" view in Wise. Note that you need to add two entries; one "Create" entry when installing, one "Service Control" entry (set to Delete) when uninstalling. If you do it this way, though, you also have to manually register the event source (I think Wise can do that too..?).

I could try to help out if you want. I'm not an expert on Wise, but I've been forced to fiddle around with it a couple of times so I've picked up some stuff along the way..

Yes, thats my understanding too.

My projectinstaller.cs was dated November 2004 for its last update. So its not a change there that is causing the problem.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I'll try this now. I'll probably need some guinea pigs though, since I've not been able to reproduce this problem myself.

I've just uploaded a repacked version that creates the service using the other mechanism described by Andlju above. You can get it from http://www.gbpvr.com/GBPVR09310b.msi.

If you have this problem, please give it a go and let us know how you get on.

Excellent! Worked for me!

The config application failed with an unhandled exception when launched by the installation wizard, and some settings where not completely migrated - but otherwise everything seems to work just fine!

Thanks sub! Let's see if this solved it for anyone else..?

Ugh! Thats a bit of a worry.

If anyone else gets this please supply a screenshot.

Andlju, do you have a config.exe.log that shows the error?

Logs are attached, but the error doesn't show up I'm afraid.. It looked more like a bad-ass unmanaged code exception though, not the ususal managed "Unhandled exception, do you want to continue"-dialog that shows up otherwise.

Sorry I didn't think to take a screenshot.. I was too excited that the installation actually seemed to go through..!
The first (small) logfile is what I believe was produced when config.exe was started from the installation. The second one is what was produced when I started it up manually a few seconds later. From what I can tell, it seems my database had already been upgraded (which probably happened when I experimented with the previous package..)

Tried the latest update on a fresh install and it worked 100% and everything seems to be working except for the Radio. It scans and finds radio stations but hitting "Add" doesnt add it to the list. Zap2it updates are working aswell, everything is running like the previous version.

The new one worked fine for me too. So far it all looks just fine. Many thanks to andlju, sub, & everyone else who helped chase this down.

Good to hear!

BTW, I'm still very curious as to what caused the error in the first place. This really is something that *should* work, and I've been googling and googling to find someone else with the same problem but to no avail.
