Is there a MPEG2 decoder in Win 10 that works with NPVR? I thought the MS one did not, so the Hauppauge would work? Sounds like this would be SD analog, so perhaps not a problem.

He's using an HDPVR (Hauppuage 1212), which is an H.264 encoder, so he can use the Microsoft H.264 video decoder in Win10.

If he was using MPEG2, he could have used the Hauppauge one, or ffdshow, or one of the others easily available.

sub Wrote:You can probably get the Hauppauge decoder to show up by starting a command prompt with 'run as administrator' and registering it with the following command:

regsvr32 "C:\Program Files (x86)\WinTV\WinTV7\AC3\HaupAC3Decoder.ax"

Otherwise you could install ac3filter or lav and choose those for AC3.

just got home from work. I ran the "regsvr32 "C:\Program Files (x86)\WinTV\WinTV7\AC3\HaupAC3Decoder.ax"" and it wont execute.... saying it cant find the file(s) ?

The path might not be exactly the same on your machine. Check where the file. It might be "C:\Program Files (x86)\WinTV\WinTV8\AC3\HaupAC3Decoder.ax" or "C:\Program Files\WinTV\WinTV8\AC3\HaupAC3Decoder.ax" etc.

Thanks. Actually, I wound up downloading and installing one of the 2 AC3 decoders you suggested.

2 things are happening:

1. When a recording starts, the LIVE TV just goes black. i cant see anything, and, the other is I cannot find a setting for the quality of recordings. IN other words, i want to set it high quality. is that possible?

Seriously, the amount of help you are giving me is incredible

If you try doing a recording, do you end up with a valid looking recording in your recording directory? Can you play it in NextPVR? Can you play it in any other player?

You could reproduce this problem and post your logs, and we'll check for any obvious cause.

There is no setting for it in the UI, but you can tweak the bitrate in the <Mode720p> etc sections of config.xml

Thank you......the recording plays perfectly....so, I found it weird that the live TV went black once it starts recording.

I will try to figure out how to post the logs now.

I am sleep deprived and I think I need to put the brakes on...I am getting ahead of myself.

1st, let me explain what I am doing and what is happening.

I open NextPVR, go into the guide, choose a program (one that is already in progress..I dont want to sit and wait if I schedule something being I am still in the test mode here). Once the program begins to record, I go back to the main menu of NPR, click on live TV. That is the point that the window turns completely black. However, the video plays PERFECTLY. In just about any player I choose.

It saves in ".ts" format. i wish it save in MP4, but, that's not a deal breaker for me

So, is this normal behavior? I dont want to waste anyone's time
