Trick play not very responsive

Hi,
Im moving from WMC to NextPVR. Thank you for developing a much needed app for OTA users like me!
Im in the US using ATSC
Im using Windows 10
Ive recorded my first movie, and found it difficult to trick play or scrub over commercials with the "play head". The play head doesnt seem very responsive to being dragged by the mouse, and only jumps after a delay somewhat unpredictably. Is this the nature of NextPVR? should I be looking at the codecs? Im using the 3 letter one that starts with "L"

How responsive this activity seems often comes down to how the broadcaster has encoded their stream, specifically the buffering between the audio/video streams. The Microsoft demux we use for playback favors audio, so you usually get audio almost instantly when you skip, and the video will start after number of ms gap between the audio and video in the stream. Most broadcasters are pretty good and have a gap of about 500ms, which gives skip times around a second. We have seen a couple of channels with a gap of about 3000ms, which lead to pretty slow skipping.

You choice of audio/video decoders can also have some impact.

Since we don't ship audio/video decoders with NextPVR, we have to rely on whatever random decoders users may have, we're not really about to take advantage of any proprietary trick mode features that decoders supply. These trick mode features are not covered by standard directshow stuff, and instead only available private APIs that are not publicly documented.

Read on a sweet little product called Comskip. Install and configure it in NPVR. Enjoy watching shows that automagically skip past commercials.

The LAV video decoder is reported to be a tad troublesome with NextPVR. It won't hurt to try others. My stock advice is SAF. SAF is an installer that will install decoders that work in all known circumstances (plus it installs some useful utilities). Plus, you can skip a number of minutes by pressing a number followed by the right arrow key ... "4" then -> will skip forward four minutes.
