Playback problems?

Hi folks,

Have an odd thing happening recently. Playback of recordings made by npvr are locking up if I try to advance through the video. I can go to Recordings and start playback, but if I hit fast forward or click on the progress bar to change the position of playback forward, it just stops playing as if it is paused. the only way to start playback again is to click an earlier point in the video on the progress bar or to click the |< button.

I'm using npvr 3.9.2 (161119) on windows 10 with silicon dust hdhomerun tuners (ATSC OTA recording only). This is happening using either CyberLink Video/SP Decoder or Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder for MPEG2 Video. I can't recall making any changes to my npvr config for the last few releases and I can't really say when this started as I don't often use npvr for playback. I can say last time I was using it playback was working fine. Who knows what Windows might have updated

BTW, The files recorded by npvr play just fine using the built-in windows 10 "Movies & TV" player and I have no problem clicking anywhere in the progress bar to move the time position in the video file. The files also play just fine using other play back clients.

Would anybody have a suggestion at what I might check/correct to resolve the player issue? Logs attached.

In the BDA setup for your tuner make sure that you are not using NextPVR mode. Use Default or MediaPortal.

for my own education, could you tell me what the difference is in those settings? Is the BDA setting actually changing the mpeg stream that npvr is receiving and writing to disk such that the recorded video is different from one bda setting to the next?

It's working fine set to default now. I'm just curious what that BDA setting actually does that made the recorded video problematic for the nextpvr player.

This setting controls how much the SiliconDust tries to strip out of the network stream, in an effort to get more efficent use of the network. With the 'NextPVR' selection, they're trying to strip out everything except the channel you're watching/recording, but unfortunately it doesn't always get it right and it causes issues. The 'Default' and 'Mediaportal' options strip nothing out of the stream, so send the full transport stream, like you'd get from a tuner physically connected to the machine.
