can't stop service

I was suddenly having trouble getting npvr to run so I uninstalled and tried to reinstall
When I am trying to reinstall npvr I see this:
[ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND]

When I ignore that and try to start npvr I get:
[ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND]

I have tried uninstalling in safe mode.
I have deleted everything related to npvr.
When I try to stop npvr service with taskmanager I get "service cannot accept control messages at this time"

I don't know that I have done anything, but since Windows got an update last week some other odd things have been happening. This is my main computer with lots of apps so, I really would like to avoid a fresh install.

Is NextPVR installed in the standard location? ie c:\program files\npvr?

Yes and when I un installed it I even deleted that directory in safe mode since the service was in use so I couldn't do it in normal. After that reboot the service did not show in taskman, but I still got the message.

On one of my test Wndows 2012 systems, I often see this problem after installing. What I need to do is

taskkill /IM NRecord.exe /f

and then restart the service.

I tried that, it returns success. BUT when I try to reinstall npvr I get the same error that says an instance is already running.

But then I ran that again and restarted the service after the install failed. I think it is working now!!!!
