Everything works fine on the PC but once I include the MVP things get wacky. Namely, recordings show as only 1 second long. If I try to ffwd or skip the screen goes black and GBPVR never comes back (until I reset the MVP...unplug and plug back in).

I'm sorry if this is answered elsewhere but I'm not finding anything? I'm sure I'm doing something stupid.

Are the recordings mpg? Do they show the right length in Windows Media Player if you open them with that? If you set them just to 'play' on the MVP do they work (i.e., don't touch FF/skip etc.)? Were they recorded using GB-PVR? If so, what capture card(s) do you have?

I'm anticipating the arrival of my MVP in a few hours. In the mean time I was reading about the "skip forward" / blank screen issue in this thread.

it says both the Hauppauge services might not be stopped if this is happening.

the recordings are mpg. They play fine it just requires me to power cycle my MVP. It happens when you just hit play from the MVP. They were recorded with GBPVR. A 250.

It is not the file just the MVP getting into a weird state.

tevbill,
It is not a big issue occurs very seldomly.

I have a PVR250, I use GBPVR (latest version). Its an mpg (it was a scheduled recording). I have not tried playing it in windows media player but watching it through GBPVR on the PC works fine...duration is 59 minutes. File size is appropriate for an hour long show. On the MVP it seems to play fine if I don't skip ffwd (but I'll admit I have not sat through more than 4 or 5 minutes...so maybe it would die after awhile). But goes black and hangs once i hit ffwd, skip OR EVEN the stop button!!!

I did go and get the latest MVP software (from april I think). After installing this the problem seemed to go away. Did I miss a post somewhere that said that the new MVP software was critical?? I appologize if thats the case!

yeah - not worried - I thought that the thread I referenced had a solution for Hucks skip / ffwd issue. cause somebody else had the same problem and resolved it by finding that one of the two haupauge services was still running.

I am very confused about the "two hauppage services running"...what does this mean? When I boot my machine I have to go and STOP the Hauppage MVP server . A GBPVR media server is automatically started for me on startup. Am I doing something wrong??

I think you have to go to "services" in windows.

I made a shorcut to the desktop using %SystemRoot%\system32\services.msc /s as the shorcut target.

anyway just bring up services and double click on the 2 haupauge services and "stop" them and set them to "manual" and then they won't start when you boot or reboot your pc.

Then start the gbpvr MVP service

I will be more sure of the procedure when I get my MVP soon, but I'm sure that no haupauge services should be running when you run the gbpvr MVP service

hope this helps

I do have a question though - when I get my MVP should I install the Haupauge software at all? is it required if I will run the gbpvr service?

Its been a long time since I got my MVP...but I do know it was imperative (at the time) to install the latest MVP software/driver (at the time it was beta but worked solid for a long time...the one they released in April is no longer beta...thats my very limited understanding though).

Why are there 2 services running...I thought just one service was running??
