The "original Air Date" is actually very important to see in the TV guide and in the search results. I find it interesting that NPVR shows the season and Epnum of a show but not its 'original air date' unless using the web guide. When scheduling a recording, Original Air date is crucial to making the NPR guide surfing far easier and more enjoyable for the user especially when keeping track of up and coming shows. Season and Episode numbers are also beneficial but mainly after the show has been recorded and consolidated into a digital library.

Windows Media Center's lists the OAD and it really is a benefit. Lets have the OAD in the NPVR native Guides and search engine.

Can one not use the "New" flag as a substitute for OAD?

Yes I was thinking the new flag was better than the OAD. Just this week I recorded a "new" PBS show on China and since the OAD is the BBC2 air date it could be quite confusing.

Yes, I like the new flag. But the "New" flag has limitations which is why I am requesting an added OAD option. I know the BBC/PBS issue you are mentioning. Its happened to Downton Abbey constantly with a schedule difference of up to 6 months. But its not a reason to not have an OAD in the guide option. Here is a good reason. I've used KODI, NPVR, WMC and TIVO. WMC and Tivo gives both New flags and OAD (WMC actually uses a "repeat" flag). I like to catchup on old episodes that I missed. The OAD is actually the best and fastest way to do this. The Season and Episode number is not. The reason why is that sometimes a show will shuffle its episode airings around but screw up and not change the Episode number. Sometimes it can take months or a year before the error is corrected in the EPG, IMDB or even TVDB while the episode have gone through reruns. Also, some reality shows run on "cycles" instead of "Seasons". The OAD helps to keep track of those.

Also, I've known some shows to not always have a "new" flag. Especially with MTV.

What I do to get the OAD is use MC2XML to download an XML from the SchedulesDirect data; then, use pBS's xsl transform tool to put the OAD at the beginning of the description for each show; then, I feed that XML into NPVR. There are other ways to get an XML, but this way doesn't violate any licenses. As long as I pay my annual fee, SD doesn't care how I download the data. If you want more details, let me know.

Because you posted that I have to make a correction since the license actually says "Any attempt to access Licensed Data via software not included on the Approved Software List will constitute a breach of this Agreement." Here is the list http://schedulesdirect.org/approvedsoftware

The latest EPG nonsense I've noticed is shows that change a few minutes of an old episode in their off season and then flag it as "New" in the EPG. The show "Mountain Men" has been running several "New episodes" every Saturday morning, they aren't really new, but the last words in the description are "contains new footage". I just delete 'em. Grrr.

Well, it looks like I need to revisit how I get the XML file. Thanks

I have thought about that approach. I've seen people do it with MediaPortal. I just don't like the extra steps involved in importing the guide. Just more steps to trouble shoot when things screw up.
