My 2 hard drives where I put the Mpeg2 files, for some weird reason, are crashed and i can't copy them back to DVD.......I had to REFORMAT them, and now I haven't started recording anything yet....

I wonder what went wrong......

all my good recordings are gone...... so sad.......I will have to re-record after my 'feeling' is healed......^_^

If you had two drives crash at once you might want to check for other problems. If they were on the same cable make sure the cable is plugged in securely to the motherboard.

I have my recording drive setup as RAID 0 with two drives. After having a problem with the RAID that caused me to lose some recordings I setup the postrecording.bat file to copy every recording to another drive.

Well, I guess I shouldn't say 'crash'....maybe I should be more specific....

The mpeg2 files that were there started acting weird...meaning, e.g. the file was originally recorded as CSI, but, then, when I then opened it, it got mixed and then became partially MacGyver's and vice versa.....and it happens on a lot of episodes, and I can't even record as the files seem to be 'corrupted'.....

so, I took a hard decision of 'delete' and reformat them....(2 hard drives==> partitioned into 4 different drives)

so weird......

just add this to the end of postprocessing.bat
This will copy all mpgs from the folder on C called recordings, to a folder on D called movie_storage.

Code:
xcopy c:\recordings\*.* d:\movie_storage\*.* /y /s /i

hmm.. i would add /d.

/d:m-d-y copies files changed on or after the specified date. If no date is given, xcopy copies only those files whose source time is newer than the destination time.

this way only new or modified recordings are copied, thereby shortening the amount of time consumed by the process.

Code:
xcopy c:\recordings\*.* d:\movie_storage\*.* /d /y /s /i

There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

I've had something similar occur to my MP3 files (completely unrelated to GBPVR). I think it has something to do with drive fragmentation. Unfortunately I never found a way to fix the problem. So now I try to prevent it by defragging my HTPC drives at least once a week.

Have you run an anti-virus scan recently?

It's been a long time since I came across it but there were some old DOS viruses which would 'garble' the FAT (file allocation table) on drives. The result would be 'cross-linked' files.

I haven't kept track recently so I'm not sure if there is anything out there that would do the same to FAT32 and anything that tried it on NTFS would probably just trash the drive totally anyway so I may be wrong.

Just a thought.
