Hi. I just noticed from the logs that the FFMPG that is delivered with NPVR is from 2015. I was researching some high CPU activity while viewing a recording.

Is this necessary for legacy reasons?
Would it upset the apple cart if the newest version was substituted into the NPVR directories?

Can the FFMPEG commands be manipulated? And freely admitting that I don't know what I'm talking about, is it worth my time to experiment to see if hardware encoding is possible?

thanks,

I can't answer your last two questions but Sub posted a 10/2016 version of ffmpeg not too long ago and that's what I'm currently using. You should be able to find it with a search.

A newer one should work fine.

In config.xml, you can set the <TranscodeHLS> setting what every you want. There is a few tags that are dynamically replaced at runtime. The default command string is:

Quote:-y [SEEK] -i [SOURCE] -map_metadata -1 -threads 0 -ignore_unknown -map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:[AUDIO_STREAM] -map -0Confused -codec:v:0 libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p -preset superfast -crf 23 -b:v [BITRATE] -maxrate [BITRATE] -bufsize [BUFSIZE] -vsync vfr -profile:v high -level 41 -force_key_frames "expr:gte(t,n_forced*3)" -s [RESOLUTION] [SUBTITLES] -flags -global_header -sc_threshold 0 -codec:a:0 aac -strict experimental -ac 2 -ab 128000 -af "adelay=1,aresample=async=1" -hls_time [SEGMENT_DURATION] -start_number 0 -hls_list_size [SEGMENT_COUNT] -y [TARGET]
