Hi All

My PC just reboots when I try to use the "Map digital channels to EPG channels" button in "Edit Recording Sources" for my PCTV 300i DVB card.

After the crash and reboot there's does not seem to be anything helpful in the log files (see below).

I need to do this because E4 and E4+1 were recently moved to a different frequency and/or transponder - so when I try to record from these channels all I get are zero length files. The other channels are OK and I also had do a rescan DEC-2000T DVB box for the same problem.

I've tried the following without success :

* Manually shuting down GBPVR service and tray before running Config

* Clearing out the EPG

* Deleting and reinstalling the latest drivers for the PCTV 300i

* Deleting and recreating a new recording source. Even after rebooting and hitting the 'Map' button again I get a message "GB-PVR was unable to start the BDA device you have configured. Check the device is configured properly, and not already in use", then after hitting OK I get a Debug Assertion Failed error (I have screen shots if it would help). If I then hit 'Abort' and restart Config it starts to bring up the preview window and then reboots. It also corrupted the GBPVR.MDB by creating an 11.5MB file filled with zero bytes.

* Restored backups of GBPVR dir and even an old image backup of drive C:, so I can only assume this problem occurred sometime ago.

* Upgraded to latest GB-PVR (GBPVR09310.msi).

It looks like your machine is having VMR9 problems. There should be another message immediately after this line which says either "Added VMR9 preview window" or "VMR9 not available - using system default renderer"

Hi Sub

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfourtunatly that is the last entry in the log, anything else must be getting lost due to the reset. When I saw the message I did try the other options, but with no change. One thing I have thought of is that when I originally setup this PC it only had a single monitor. Now the TV is also connected as the primary display and cloned to the monitor, so that video is displayed on TV. I going to try disabling the TV and try again.

Will report back,

No luck so far. I disabled every other running process I could think off. Going to disable all plug-ins next and then do a complete reinstall if that fails.

I think I've finally found the reason for this problem, so I'm documenting my findings here in case someone else experiences it.

The problem only seems to occur when the drivers for a Sigma X-Card are also installed. I'm using the latest release 2.1, 19-Dec-2003, file XC_2_1K1.zip, but I've not tried previous version.

A work around to stop the PC restarting is to temporarily disable the X-Card in the device manager, then run GB-PVR's config app. and rescan the channels for the Pinnacle capture device. Then after saving the new settings the X-Card can be re-enabled.

So far I cannot honestly say who's drivers/software is at fault, Pinnacle or Sigma.

Hope this helps someone.
