It was the 64 bit installer from kodi.tv (Kodi v18.2 "Leia") - couple of things I have got left to try before I give up and start dual booting Linux - have now got the latest C++ redist's and am going to remove Aeroglass from W8.1, possibly a graphics driver update, although I would rather stay on the last catalyst driver for my HD7700 (the one before they dumbed down and broke deinterlacing)
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

You might also want to try 32bit it is much more established 64bit was new in v18

Thanks for the advice Martin - removed Aeroglass (back to flat windows Sad ) Installed 32 bit kodi and spent the rest of the weekend adding Sources & Smart Playlists and tweaking to my hearts content Big Grin Replacement for Movies sorted! Watched a few episodes of Warrior with the Boss, who actually commented that she thought the picture quality was better Cool

Next job is to install NPVR v5 and get that set up.
