Windows Xp Firewall:
If you installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) It installed one for you. It also "re-enables" it on the sly sometimes, after an update.
Have a look in Control Panel, there will be something called "Windows Firewall" under the "Security Centre" section. (if you have a Classic Start Menu you will see it straight in Control Panel). If you double click that it will tell you if it is on or off.
Norton Antivrus Internet Worm Blocker
Not strictly a firewall on its own, but does BLOCK some malicious script requests just like a Firewall. Enable or permit those programs you KNOW are safe, like GBPVR.exe or GBPVRecordingService.exe
Others
You will (should) know if you have installed one:-)
e.g. Sygate,
Zonealarm
Norton Security
etc
