What is streaming profile for in V5?

This is kind of why NextPVR's built in streaming profile went for a fixed list of predefined profiles, rather than letting users individually choose resolutions / bitrates - too many options for most users.

Martin, maybe the addon should be providing the list from setting.transcode.options, which is a sensible set of defaults, and later I can make it configurable, so users can add additional profiles if the default don't cover their needs?

I don't like the limited choices in NextPVR web for bandwidth and resolutions and the Kodi settings.xml doen't allow any settings that can be customized which is why I asked you if we could come up with a way of using named profiles that were set by the user on the server but you didn't like that.

I would rather have low quality video the doesn't stutter over higher bitrates that do and it doesn't take much to make that difference. That's kind of what I am doing, but they're names that reflect the characteristics of the stream. ie, "720p - 3Mbps". Were you thinking more like a "low", "medium", "high" generic stream name type thing (or possibly "1080p", "720p", "480p" etc like youtube)? I probably wouldn't use high/medium/low in web app, but I'm happy to put something in to help you do it in Kodi. If you wanted to wanted to provide me a list of defaults, I could add a <OtherStreamProfiles> node in config.xml, with a default mapping to resolution/bitrate for those profiles.

If you did want to go with youtube style "1080p", "720p", "480p" etc, I could change the web app to use those, and provide a little settings screen for them to tweak the default bitrates.

I'm for "1080p", "720p", "480p" etc with each one having their nominal bit rate via NextPVR config.xml. The default could certainly be the recommended value from the YouTube table @aderlopas posted.

Default and Custom might also be options.

The Kodi Matrix addon has been updated for this change. Unfortunately the build system failed on the x64 build (not because of the code) and only 32bit i686 Kodi can be tested at the moment. Builds are are here https://jenkins.kodi.tv/blue/organizatio.../artifacts

Definitely worth trying out the new h/w transcoding options in NextPVR.

Possibly later on we could also have timeshift with transcoding (doesn't hurt dreaming does it ?  )

Thanks to a Kodi dev there is now timeshifted transcoding.    The timeshift file is actually buffered on the device which I didn't like at first but from a remote location it actually makes sense.  How many minutes of buffer do you think you would use?   I am trying to figure out a good slider interval.
